In Memory of Docent Picolan

Hi, I'm posting this here because I couldn't comment on the news article posted on 15 Nov.

Very sorry to hear that Docent Picolan, the leader of the HOTA project, is dead.

The article did not say how he died. I do hope to know. Was it Covid? Was it a car accident? Was it crime? Or some private reason?

I never knew him. I had downloaded and played HOTA for at least 200 hours and I didn't even know who were the people involved in this project!

But as many people must have said previously, HOTA was truly well made and polished. Given his resources, this is a great achievement.

Docent's Wasteland soundtrack was really brilliant. It is not often that you have a man who can manage disparate tasks well - he had to manage a team and he had to do coding and he had to compose. But the Wasteland soundtrack sounded just like the originals, just like HOTA was so polished that you couldn't know that this was a fan project.

I don't know what Docent did in his working life, but he doesn't seem to have any info on his facebook account. All google searches are to HOMM related stuff. So it is possible that either he is extremely low profile in private life, or 'Docent Picolan' is actually a pseudonym. Wish I could know more about the man, but it appears he's a private person (or he might have given more info about himself in interviews and posts.)

I hope Docent's team will create a hero for Docent when they do release Forge HOTA.

I just had to ask.

Docent is actually an academic title right? So Docent Picolan isn't his real name. It's Picolan. And is that a family name or personal name? Why do we have no information about him? Surely if he led some development teams, there are people who do know him or have met him in life?

It's nickname. I know him under it all that time but I don't know his civil name.
