Make sure you do the research on all the bugs and how to bypass them?
Far too many people speak their minds without first verifying the quality of their source material.
Re: Starting a solo MM9 game
I cannot recall any major bugs when playing long ago with a full party. Thete were some minor issues but i was deleting minisaves and afairc that did the trick.
Now i have gog version 1.3 TELP patch comes with it.
any issues i shall be aware of?
Could u please provide a link? Or a brief summary?

Re: Starting a solo MM9 game
1) You cannot use turnbased mode in solo game, it just hangs up. So I suggest you have some ranged weapon (and skill) from start, and to try your best to find Forad Darre as fast as possible as you on the Isle od Ashes. The further game should be easier, especially if you hire some meatshields. Alternatively you can bring 4 guys to the Ashes and kill 3 of them just before meeting Forad.
2) Remember that if you're paralyzed, it's reloading (or getting to Arslegard and then reloading). Occuluses have a bad habit of doing this. And they are on your way to become a Lich.

Cool - thanks for the tips! Its been ages since i played mm9. Currently finishing solo mm7 archer. Once u have tried a solo game there is no turning back although i have yet to finish a solo mm6 i need to dig up my old solo mm6 sorc someplace midgame.
bte, which would be a better option for a solo mm9 :
A lich - souldrinket or a mage - divine intervention?

Lich - he has the best damage spells in game.
I don't remember but I think, that Divine Intervention also ressurect dead party members, so it wouldn't be a good spell for solo run.

Re: Starting a solo MM9 game
Lich only has souldrinker as compared to Mage.
Poison cloud elemental bolt sparks are all governed by elemental magic that decides their dmg potential.
divine intervention can also heal all conditions + restore spell points.
so basically lich dmg = mage dmg. Lich has souldrinker and mage DI.
No shrapmetal
I just dont get this idea of dark magic in mm9

Re: Starting a solo MM9 game
Lich has also Paralysys and has better mastery (as spells in MM9 need two or even three magic schools) in Posion Cloud (MM9 equivalent of Sharpmetal). Mage on the other hand has better mastery in Chain Lightning and Pillar of Fire/Meteor Storm.
Lich is also master in Ranged Weapon and Merchant, while mage is only expert. Mage is GM in ID. Items, while Lich is M. And yes, money is a problem in MM9 (unless you cheat or exploit game bugs ).

Re: Starting a solo MM9 game
Is this game ok after the beginning? I found it so hard to like it. Loved MM7 and MM8.

Re: Starting a solo MM9 game
No, it's no OK. Middle game is boring (and bugged) and you really can see, how much work was needed for this title to be published as a game, not as a alpha version. Not to mention about some features which were removed or simply there wasn't time to add them in game (lack of alchemy for example).
However ending is another story with large and much better dungeons, puzzles and with less bugs... but first you need to complete boring parts of game.

Re: Starting a solo MM9 game
I think I would be ultra bored then. I usually have much more fun at early and mid of games due the momentum they inspire to get to the ending (which we never do want to happen). If that's quite the opposite, I'm not inclined even to try.

Re: Starting a solo MM9 game
1) Just remembered: it's (at least) two points in the game where you have to die, and resurrected party will steal your XP, unless you kill it again.
2) Also master merchant can break the game:

Re: Starting a solo MM9 game
@tolich: looks like you've played with a solo lich?
Could you share some insights:
- at what stage in the game you kill the 3 chars and how?
- what npcs do u use and why?
- why lich and not mage....well come to think of it @Avonu, i think DI actually does resurrect. U were right. Pointless then.
- at what point /how quickly/ did you get your lich promo? Any strategy tips?
- what pieces of equipment do u recommend? I guess pendant of spheres...death set? Or simply enchant item but what would be the best stats? + hp?
- how many points did u pump into elemental dark learning and meditation?
- what r the moments u need to die?

Re: Starting a solo MM9 game
It gets very slightly better, starting locations are worst in mm series I.E you are trapped in 2locations until you get to mainland, but overally its horrible and underdeveloped, and just slightly over Alpha version of game. There are so many retro RPG games that would deserve another go rather than MM IXPanda Tar wrote:Is this game ok after the beginning? I found it so hard to like it. Loved MM7 and MM8.
Re: Starting a solo MM9 game
I just checked DI from a scroll I found.
DI does not ressurect and can be cast to your hearts content...*evil grin*
So basically what is means is that the Lich can be challenged by the Mage...
not to mention i pulled off mage promo at clvl 10 - 15 . Solo

Re: Starting a solo MM9 game
Yes, despite whats said in description, you can spam DI. There is also no age in MM9 so no restriction to use it at all. So all in all , its pretty much trivialization of game if used that way.
Re: Starting a solo MM9 game
Unfortunately.
I am going solo Lich after all.
and so far i have managed to store a few scrolls of DI in my backpack
Come to think of it 2 x mage with DI would be nonesense...

Ok. Did anyone of you guys played a solo lich?
How did you go about the souldrinker problem? It works only with all party members alive. When 3 chars are dead one souldrinker sucks all life from you....?

Re: Starting a solo MM9 game
It sounds like you're diving into a strategy game or RPG! For a Solo Lich build, focusing on Grandmaster Learning can be very effective, as it will allow you to maximize your experience gains and develop powerful abilities quickly. Here are a few tips:
1. **Optimize Your Stats**: Focus on intelligence and magic-related stats to maximize your spellcasting abilities and damage output.
2. **Spell Selection**: Choose spells that offer crowd control, damage over time, and area of effect to manage multiple enemies.
3. **Gear Up**: Equip items that enhance your magic abilities and provide defensive bonuses to compensate for the lack of party support.
4. **Hit and Run**: Use mobility spells to keep distance from enemies and avoid getting surrounded.
5. **Resource Management**: Keep an eye on your mana and health potions, and always have a backup plan for tough battles.
Good luck with your Solo Lich adventure!
