What's the purpose of sabres?

I mean - they're weaker than longswords, yet you get a longsword if you start with a sword skill. So unless you get a higher level sabre early on, they are basicallly worthless.

It is a bug. Swords are too much because 14. Staff only 3. It need modding.

I guess what you're asking isn't "why are there so many different types of swords?", but more: "why is there a sword weaker than the starting sword?". Well, you could find one and learn the skill at a guild. Plus it makes crappy loot more varied.

There is no sense. If you learn skill you find more better swords in chests.
Better thing is give more another weapons. 14 swords and 3 staffs. Better is make 6 staffs.

Am not sure what this material have purpose, maybe hidden stats working here like speed

It's probably just because in the real world swords were the most common weapon. Same reason there are so many spear types.

There are no hidden stats to them. All swords have the same recovery time (as far as I'm aware).

I think that material may be for repair skill. There is no coincide with damages.
