(H4) Playing extracted sound files.

Unread postby Xdarkon » 03 Feb 2016, 19:41

Hey guys,

I've tried exporting the unit/dwelling sound files found inside the heroes4.h4d.
I successfully exported the files as MP3s (The unpacker extracts them as MP3),
yet when I try to play them I am told that it is unsupported or corrupted.

How would I go about making the sound files playable outside the game?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Heck, I think that I extracted them via gameextractor ages ago and they were working right away. Listening to H4 soundtrack was one the first thing which I did and it was a pleasure. :)

Thanks for the reply, I downloaded the free version and tried to open .h4r files to no avail.
Upon checking on the website, Heroes IV seems to have a poor compability with the software.

Update: I managed to open the MP3s in Audacity but what comes out is a very ear-rapish noise,
and I don't know a dime about sound editing.

Okey, gameextractor doesn't work any more but it worked years ago, apparently they have some problem with .h4r plugin now.

Used mh4.096 and it worked right away.

Checking the sounds properties, (or what it's converted to) and it's MPEG1-layer3, 128kbps, 44100Hz, joint stereo.

I don't like audacity so I won't be installing it but instead you may use goldwave to see wave ripple, from your sreenshot it seems like that's wav instead of mp3. It shouldn't be mono and it should have twice the frequency - somwhere happened an error. And for playing I still prefer winamp.

I have come to the realization that exported songs and voice files (From the campaign) play out fine.
But the issues only burst out when I try to play any other sound effects it does not work.

The other sounds - have modified headers I think. But I really don't remember. Try to search forum, kinda it must been solved years ago.
