Mods Wipe Demo Mod Threads

Unread postby Angelspit » 01 May 2006, 19:47

All threads that dealt with modifications of the Heroes of Might and Magic V demo have disappeared on the official forums. The most popular mod was the one that allowed 18 presets for the duel mode. Fabrice <a href="/http://forums.ubi.com/groupee/forums/a/ ... plained why moderators were requested to do a little cleaning: "(...) to simplify the lives of all moderators, there is no fine line to judge : there will be no modding discussions in the forums, until the game is released." He added that some content was not meant to be shared publicly at this point. The same policy was enforced during the beta test.

Meh. All the 'modding' was simple editing. Something that map editor could do.

As for 18 heroes presets, why putting them in demo then? Not sure how it really works this programming, but if they are not meant to be played with...why are they in data.pak?

And slightly off-topic, I really dislike their deleting practice. Not just for this.

Here's hoping Ubisoft won't treat future mods this way...

Because they were in the final stages of getting the game and demo ready and didn't have the time to wipe everything out.

There were such things going on in the open beta as well, which was even worse- if you're asked to test a game, you don't go and edit it so you'll like it more and thus only test a version that was abandoned months ago. THat's not testing, just playing for your own sake.

Yuuuuh!

I hate mods. I wish i had an option in the map editor to make scenarios I make unplayable under any mods.

If you were to use the Wake of Gods mod, you could add scripting to a Heroes 3 map to prevent it being played with any of the WoG modifications. :)

Actually, the game does seem to have a bit of blood in it, a far cry from H4 where they had to change the venom spawn dwelling liquid to a green colour (from blood red) for ratings purposes.

If they didn't want people poking at it, they shouldn't have put it in the demo. They should have known that people would find it. Simply telling them not to just makes them want to do it more! You can be damned sure that somewhere on the internet there is already a message board or site that Fabrice can't control explaining modding. What they going to do - close that down too? Fair use laws and the fact that this is a public open DEMO means that Ubi won't get very far with that approach...

I hate mods too, but what we have here is nothing close to one, it's an "unlock" of the content that's already there (for some reason??). I did the scenario map editing on my own (wanted to play a bit with dungeon) and as for the 18 hero unlock, well they are THERE, why didn't they just remove them from the demo?

I don't like mods as well. Maybe they are interesting, but very confusing, they are instantly redesigned, more and more versions are created, which takes very long (like Equilibris :D), not very user-friendly (sometimes you have to put a lot of effort in even running the mod, needs a lot of editing etc.), and in the end, it seems that it's better to play the game without any add-ons, it's just simplier and friendlier.

Oh, and they probably didn't delete it to stop modding, just to make a statement.

It's simple guys- They don't want an inferior, unfinished and unbalanced product played and giving the wrong impression. It's not a moral issue, it's a gameplay issue.

That said, I will play the other factions anyway AND buy the game. It's only one map, for crying out loud. Quit yer arguing and enjoy the crumbs before the cake gets here.
