Windows 10

The C_E editor will not launch in Win 10; the standard editor does. Any ideas? Both Equilibris and H-IV games launch but to a black screen; you can hear the sound track as it is loading but just a black screen. ;|

Actually changing the compatibility setting so it runs in 640x480 fixed the game problem. :D Unfortunately the Equilibris editor still does not work.

I've poked GoG.com about their Heroes IV complete, since it does not have Windows 10 listed as an OS for the game, but they said they don't have any fix so far for compatibility issues :(

I've been delaying my switch to windows 10 because of this.

Huh, that's good to keep in mind. Though personally I play HoMM4 through Wine, which doesn't have problems like that.

None so far. Didn't try win 10 yet. Early adopters have the most compatibility issues, sorry. ;|

I am using Heroes complete from GOG; just set 640 x 480 in the compatibility menu and the game and the Equilibris mod seem to run fine; so far its just the equilibris editor. Unfortunately that shuts down any near term plans to return to finishing my campaign as it needs the mod.

I think that any more or less modern PC can easily run virtual machine with XP and H4 game. As a last resort, of course.

I use a virtual machine with XP for old games when I'm not running Windows (my laptop for instance), it works very well.

Yea that may be for others; I find the more of those type of solutions I use it only slows my computer down. I will not be using them; hopefully a fix can be found or an update intending to fix a different program clears this one up as well. I frequently use the movement of tech to prod me to move on; so perhaps that is what it is telling me. It is strange that the standard editor does run without any adjustments, but the equilibris editor doesn't regardless of the setting I use.

It can be blocked. Try to allow there exception in Windows Defender.

Good luck! I have been enjoying Dragon's Fate campaign. I'm up to the time limited level, but on the lowest difficulty. I've decided I'd rather focus on the plot and character development rather have the absolutely hardest difficulty when I'm playing custom campaigns.

It's true - VMs are slower than native mode. But If your PC is able to run Win10 comfortably - it means that you have more than enough performance to spare - we are talking about 10+ years old game.

Yes, it is strange. We'll look into it.

GoG pretty much told me they aren't going to do anything about the compatibility issues -.- Basically said if a patch to the OS happens to magically fix the issues, then they would list the OS as supported. Pretty lame. I used to love GoG, but they've been pissing me off lately.

I guess I'll look into the virtual machine thing. That or I'll just stay with windows 8.1. It's not that bad.

I'd say "Stay with Win 7. It's great!"

So I had to talk to Alienware today about a different issue; I had time to ask him if my laptop was Windows 10 ready like the Dell site said. I pointed out to him Microsoft's Windows 10 app was saying there were Intel hardware components in my computer that did not have windows 10 drivers. He went away for awhile as he was under the impression my laptop was indeed ready. He came back and told me that Microsoft was correct and that Alienware recommends I wait until that warning message is removed. So hopefully whatever hardware that still needs a windows 10 drivers are the ones causing the problem with the Equilibris editor. In any case there is hope for anyone having issues running some of the older games; if Intel doesn't have all the drivers then others probably don't either. Hopefully when all the hardware people catch up then a lot of these issues will resolve themselves. :beg:

I have tried the editor on my other windows 10 computers; sadly while the normal editor works fine, the equilibris editor crashes while opening. There must be something that version does ever so slightly different that is causing the problem. :(
