H7: Armies of the Silva Part 1 & 2

Unread postby Aemaeth » 24 Jun 2015, 19:52

Dear Heroes,

Finally, The Dev team has revealed the line up for Sylvan's faction, with all basic and elite units.

For those whom haven't seen the news, Sylvan faction is composed of:

- Hunter & Master Hunter

- Dryad & Oak Dryad

- Pixie & Sprite

- Druid & Druid Elder

- Moon Doe & Sun Deer

- Blade Dancer & Blade Master

It is not a surprise, players are quite upset about characters' design. Some comments consider that Moon Doe is too cute to go on the battlefield.

Others are quite upset about the choice of having women as Druids, event the lore justifies this choice.

The main criticisms concern the lack of muscles for Blade Master.

And you, what is your opinion about Sylvan's units ?

The Good: Sprite, Dryad, Deer

The Bad: Every elf unit.

Race based faction line ups still one of the worst things to happen to HoMM since Ubi got ownership. Just put in one awesome elf in the lineup and have some elf heroes, then stop right there. It can still be elf nation without having elves taking up half the roster. :disagree:

hmmm... I kinda don't like sprite, deer and druid, but like blade dancers, dryads and hunters :)

And I think it's a good idea to have race based lineups (it feels more natural for them to live and fight together, than just a bunch of unrelated creatures), just needs more developer creativity to make each unit type unique

They're not unrelated creatures. They're unified by a theme, like the terrific barbarian line up in H7 - less palette swaps, more diversity, and good concept. I can't even tell the difference between some units in-game for other factions. :|

speaking of how the blade dancers are inspired by warhammer, did anyone cough Waywatcher at the Hunter(s)?

I have to agree with a comment on the blog site, Sprites looks like Faceless dresseup up..

The art team that has worked on H5-7 is renowned for copying other art to the letter. The cover box guy is a copy, the elves are copy, the art of a hero was copy, even some of their own designs are palette swap copies. Hell, this entire game is weak copy of old game. Copy pasta. B-)

@mr.hackcrag:

What on earth are you talking about? Including the druid, there are 3 elves in a lineup of 8 creatures. H1, H2 and H3 all had two elves in lineups of 6 or 7 (H3) creatures. Is one more elf all that annoying in a larger lineup?

Can't understand this blue mist around ancient treant's head. And a dragon without wings is not a dragon but a lizard!

It's not even a lizard, it's a freakin' tree root! I like most of the other units, but I hate that so-called "dragon". They should call it something else.

I just don't get why the Dryad and the Pixie are considered two different units this time, but in H5 one was an upgrade of the other.

I like the dragon design because I imagine an earth dragon being large and slow moving so it wouldn't fly. I'm certainly glad it doesn't look like their previous game dragon designs which look like pointy metal dragons you'd see in Yugi Oh.

However, the treant looks pretty goofy. It's hard to believe we lost a phoenix because of that. :(

"Sadly, they can only… bark."

Good stuff.

I really don't know what to make of them; they maybe good or bad; but they all look like escapees from a salad bar.

I think Sylvan creatures looks fine. I like it that they broke the color-scheme (finally!). I think Core is OK, Elite tier is meh, and Champion is very good.

Phoenixes would have been far better than wingless tree dragons.

Oh well.

H2 had only one elf unit, namely the shooters.

They needed to make all the artworks and then do faction and lineup voting. I assume financial costs and general lack of preparedness made that not possible, but it would have been best for the game.

Let's be honest, the pegasus was the featured focal point unit in H3 lineup, not the elf riding it. :proud:
