Adblock?

Unread postby Kalah » 05 Dec 2014, 11:42

Hi!

Are you using Adblock to prevent ads from being displayed while you graze the Internet? I know I am. Ads are just so annoying, especially when they're big and obtrusive. I disable it for Celestial Heavens, though. You know why? Because the ads are paying for the server we're using. Without money, the site won't survive.

Wanna do us a favour? Disable Adblock for celestialheavens.com!

I certainly don't. Because the built-in Firefox abilities are sufficient: I set Flash to be click-to-play, so I don't see any of those ads to begin with; bad Google ads can be disabled by pressing the "X" button to the top right of the ad; and bad ads from everything else can be blocked by right-clicking on the image, selecting "image info", and putting a checkmark on "do not send images from <ad company page>". With that there are no more annoying ads.

And then, years later, we discover that he was not Kalah, but a power hungry AI trying to install tracking ads into our PCs to control our minds remotely for all eternity.

I think that not using adblock as favour here is easy. Harmless small google ad which you can survive without a scar.

As for Kalah he's true.

And AI already control your computer, no need to put an advert here. Think of it that advert is donation. Simplest way to show your support, if you're reading our articles. :)

I have unlocked for this site. Actually, it's so automatic that I didn't even remember I could unblock that. :D

I've never used adblock. I must be the biggest donor to this site. :proud:

I'm not going to stop using adblock, although if you can set up a way to toss some coin against the server bills then I'd gladly toss some at some point.
(I can't imagine the ad income being anything but miserable for a site as crowded as CH is these days.)

You miss the point, GreatEmerald. This is not about how skilled you are to avoid ads but if you understand why adblock (or any other similar tool) kills free fan forums.

Same issue occurred in heroes community lately. I totally agree, keeping forums and database of this quality deserves a little effort as unblocking it. Done, and thanks.

I think it's you who's missing my point... There's no need for adblock to begin with, because you can disable the really annoying and resource-consuming ads with built-in tools, and the remaining ads are harmless, thus there is no need to block them.

Hm, that's certainly interesting.
I'm still down on throwing coins though.
