A nice screen from Heroes 3, with Heroes 4 graphics, working like a charm. Fully functional. <img src="/images/smiles/big%20smile.gif">

I still think the H4 graphics was the best in the series; the "semi-3D" adventure map was perfect for the way I imagined such a game. Once they went to complete 3D (inevitable, perhaps, but not a change to my personal liking), they took away the thing I liked most about the Heroes series. Playing H3, albeit great in its game mechanics, was a bit too ... "primitive". Making the maps look a bit more real was a masterstroke. Going all the way to 3D made the adventure map feel less like an adventure map.
A blend between H3 and H4, with the graphics of the latter used for the adenture map, then, seems like a perfect hybrid in my eyes. Although it is unlikely to ever happen, I still wish Ubisoft would make Heroes 7 with improvements in the H3/5 mechanics, and the adventure map almost like H4.

Why would it be unlikely? Why do we need fully 3D Heroes games? It's not because the players of this generation are used to it and will be alienated with Heroes4-style graphics. Civilization gets away with it and it's extremely popular. I'd dare say CIV5 has sold much much better than H6.
The main benefit from switching to H4-style 2D graphics would be the ease of making maps. Not just for the community, but for the development team as well. There would be much more premade maps, we could have RMG again and an active map-making community. These are really the heart of Heroes, so why Ubisoft takes it away -and spends more money in the process- is beyond me. At leas they could have gone for a marketing research to see if their target audience prefers one over the other.

"Heroes 4 graphics" is quite a lie. Most buildings here are from Rise of Nations. Only the pigs, the flower beds, maybe some trees and the mana fountain are from H4, from what I can tell. Those walls look familiar too. Age of empires? Stronghold?

In my dream, Heroes 4 should have been H4 graphics, of course the best, H3 game play, + wog modding capabilities. But no, they had to screw it (sorry, fans of H4, just my opinion).
There is no mod about, I just released one big graphic patch for Era (wog +) which contains the most beautiful objects + animations I could find in other games. Including H4.
More screen from it (over 1600 objects):
+ 160 NPC made with 3Ds max. Mapmakers could use them for custom quests or other crazy ideas.

Why do so many fans of Heroes boast about how better H3's gameplay was compared to H4. In H4 they tried to change things; enrich the gameplay, bring new ideas. Some did not work very good in practice but others were great. You can say that's a matter of taste but H3 had a gameplay identical to that of H2. It introduced absolutely nothing new, so the comparison between H4 and H3 in terms of gameplay is a ridiculous subject. H3 was a bit more rounded and had more content than H2, otherwise it was the same game with slightly different graphics and a different story.

Someone said tastes are like anus, everyone has one.
This being said, games live long because players. Without players the game dies. If we look through statistics from famous Heroes 2 tournaments (Isle league, Oracle), we see that 100% of players moved to H3 when it came out. Then ToH (tournament of honor) had up to 30000 registered players in the next 5-6 years. When H4 came out, from at least 1000 active players, only 50 or less moved on.
I believe is safe to say that H4 did not much impress H3 fans. Now that H4 has its fans, I'm sure it does!
But how many of those loving H4 are H3 veterans, I would like to hear. The transition failed, IMO. People loving a game expect from sequels same game but with improvements, not a total different one.
PS: I adore H4 map adventure graphics.

It's quite a coincidence that I finished that game shortly before the picture was posted (and finally gave me an excuse to actually join the forums!).Marzhin wrote:Hey, isn't that the character from Shining Force (seen in the minimap)? Cool
Also, about the screenshot itself:
Is that the town in the upper-left corner? I personally prefer the Heroes 3 graphics (influenced a bit by nostalgia), but that's a cool structure.
