<img src="/images/news/conflux.jpg" align=right vspace=5 hspace=5>Those of us who were around when <i>Heroes V</i> hit the shelves, remember the promotions made by the developers about its online features. The "ghost mode" was touted (by us, even) as being an <a href="/https://www.celestialheavens.com/show_b ... >excellent feature</a>, but in the end the online experience of H5 turned out to be ... well, rubbish. The sluggishness of the online features was one of the <a href="/http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heroes_of_ ... ticisms</a> against the game (<a href="/http://heroesvsucks.blogspot.com/2008/0 ... here</a>'s just one example).
At this point in time it looks like history is repeating itself. Despite the emphasis put on creating a stellar new online system for <i>Heroes VI</i>, despite the innovative ideas and <i>hard work</i> of the developers, the online features of this game are failing. Failing to achieve their inherent goals. There are currently several topics on <a href="/http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/65 ... again">the official forums</a>, with players and fans (?) complaining that their connections are faulty. That the Conflux is down.
Some times news pop up on the <a href="/http://www.facebook.com/MightandMagic">Facebook</a> page, but there are also unscheduled downtime, much to the frustration of the players (as can be seen in the above-mentioned topics on the official forums). It would seem that the <a href="/http://might-and-magic.ubi.com/heroes-6 ... 32">server transition</a> has not had the desired effect of improving the game's online features to the point at which this no longer happens.
The official CH position, of course, has been clear for some time. While we like the making of online features to boost the players' gaming experience, they need to <i>work</i> in order to be taken into account. Teacher as I am: an A for effort, but an F for overall completion. I am also beginning to worry about whether too much emphasis has been placed on the online system; that this could have impaired the resources used on building other aspects of the game. The feeling I am getting at the moment is something like: "imagine how great this game could be <i>if</i>..."

The day I've decided to give H6 another chance Conflux was down do to server transition . Since then every single game I spend 2-3 minutes connecting to Conflux.
At least If Conflux were some "great experience", but its rubbish. Achievements that pop up from time to time without knowing why or having any control, and stupid icons and meaningful rewards. When I fought as Azkaal i got some 8+ achievements. Where is the fun in that?
There is only one good thing in all Conflux! The Weapon system.

Even Steam has an annoying problem of achievements not registering right... and at lest there you barely notice when your connection flatlines...
And yet people only try to copy it's DRM features and not the ones that actually make the DRM bearable...

Good job killing a 25 year old franchise, Ubisoft.

The Conflux: A Horror Story?
Absolutely. If only Ubi would just let steam handle the DRM instead of persistently trying to assf*ck its customers.

Part of the problem with online functionality in Heroes 6 is the fact that Heroes of Might and Magic is just not a game that works well in multiplayer games.
I tried playing a multiplayer Heroes 3 game with my younger brother once or twice, on randomly generated maps, and it wasn't that great. The big problem being that us humans take too long to do our turns, so you really need to have something else to do while other humans take their turns.
Plus, forcing online play for single player games is always a bad idea.
I got a copy of Heroes 6 for Christmas, and I still haven't opened it yet, because of all the complaints about stuff like this I've read here and elsewhere on the Internet.

Sorry Kalah, but how hard is to check Ubisoft forum first?
>>>To update the game and set up the new 2.1 patch (including the eagerly awaited Nvidia fix) we started maintenance on our servers.
This maintenance will be completed in the afternoon. We apologize for the inconvenience but don’t worry, there are only a few hours before your return in Ashan!

From comments on Amazon (Germany) I get the impression that the addon cannot coexist with the original game. You need to uninstall the original game to make the addon work, but then you cannot longer access the original campaign and your old saves?
