Unread postby Variol » 02 Dec 2012, 20:49

How do I get the dwellings etc to display, so I can add them to the map??

That's a new one.

I suppose you've opened "View/" and then selected "Tool-Panel", then clicked on and off and it remains like this?

If yes and it remains like your screenshot then my best-guess is the editor is corrupted and I would re-install. Just a note: my same editor areas are white and not orange.

You could try and make a new map to see if it will reset or open someone esles map, but I would not expect that to make a difference. On a related note; corruption is a problem so always save a lot. I made a workshop folder so I save map back-ups there is case something goes wrong.

Good luck

I did what you said, but it looks basically the same. The reason for the orange is because I set that as my back round colour.

Would it matter if I changed my processor? I have not done a reinstall, since adding a faster processor; which BTW seems the same as my old one. :(

I wondered if that what the reason, I never noticed the option.

Not likely. I would re-install, Corruption is the only thing that makes any sense to me; unless you done some other special stuff like orange that I don't know about. :D

Did you tried to... remove the orange and set the "default" background color? ;|

I have had the orange for a long time; even when it was working. The re-install is a good place to start.

Will I lose my save games and random maps? I'm guessing not...

Make a folder H5maps under the drive and always use it as a backup. The other day I had a save not work and a recopy from that file to the game's maps folder allowed me to continue the save.

With the H3 map editor, it was very easy to add a few creature dwellings around a castle. I used put a few of the same creature dwellings close to the castle, then I would restrict the growth of all other creatures in the castle but that one.
So I would only use medusa's for example. It added a little more challenge.

I'm just about to do the re-install. Stay tuned...

You can do this in the H5-editor. Select the town and hit spacebar. Select object properties on the toolbar (icon is file&glasses) Then select each creature building you want to disable and "un-check the enable box". Then place whatever creature dwellings you want.
Hmm,You might as well as select the garrison hero too since there are many Heroes that specialize in creatures; i.e Grawl for the hellhounds. Kythra for Minotuars etc.

You can do more than you think although it is clunky at times. :D On my Heroes of Ashan map I have two towns for each faction and each can only have one upgrade-group.
I'm just about to do the re-install. Stay tuned...
Ah the sweet smell of success, after the nasty odor of corruption.

Thanks markkur, I'll try that...

Is it also possible to "allow" campaign heroes in the custom maps, like in H3? I used to just check them off before, but now I can not find any reference to that.

EDIT:
Thanks, that's a handy tip! Are the campaign heroes in the list of heroes?

Yes, follow this route

View
Map Properties
Heroes
"Reset" only enables normal heroes
"Check all" also adds campaign Heroes

Since you are wanting to use campaign Heroes here's a Link for a map I made for you to place in your "maps" folder so you can rehire campaign Heroes if you have to retreat.

It's at the bottom of Post 11

Thanks again,
I downloaded your map.

My other question is:

Even though I installed a much faster processor, I still can not play a map that's larger than "large" and with 4-5 players at the most. On the larger maps, the AI is just too slow on it's turns.
Is that pretty much the norm?

I downloaded your map "RehireCamp_ver.1" but I do not see it in the list of maps. I have placed it in the "map" folder. Is that correct?

I just noticed that one of the Haven campaign heroes has the same name as I have "Andreas". :)

Sorry I didn't mention; its not a full map, so it's good you do not see it list. :D What it will do is allow you to rehire your camp-heroes if you play a map that has not been set-up for that.

Btw, if you're new to H5, make a folder for your fanmaps outside the game and only have one map at a time in the maps folder. "whatever is in there in the way of modded objects...will all load." That is why my little mod works but should cause no problems, since its only camp-heroes

About the turns, the original A.I. is very limited, the larger the map the more factions the worse it gets. Play what's acceptable to you and then try Q's A.I. it's at the site I gave you and it's easy to install.

One last thing, if you've not seen this it might help you some.

I will look at the this,

Is there some reason I can not select Andreas as my hero? I have him checked off, but I can not find him in the list.

Well, learn something new every day I guess. I seldom use campaign heroes and didn't realize that some "although allowed" would still not show in the tavern.

I can tell you how to place him on a map (at least) but first let me see if I can find out more. It would be better to have all available.

I'll need some time.

I could not find "Q's AI". Is it a file to install and download, or is it a set of instructions. Maybe you could past it in your next post?

Also,
Am I just supposed to leave the map of yours which I downloaded in the "maps" directory?
