How does one fix the checkerscreen towns?

How does one fix the checkerscreen towns?

Apparantly since installing the latest patches the town screen has been replaced with a checkerboard screen. What is the cause of this and what is the solution?
Working on tracking the locations of Heroes IV battles. Stage 6 of campaign map finished, all initial Heroes IV campaigns mapped.

Apparantly this issue is fixed by increasing your texture quality to high from medium (in my case).
Working on tracking the locations of Heroes IV battles. Stage 6 of campaign map finished, all initial Heroes IV campaigns mapped.
