Any way to play HoMM3 online?

I'm very stupid when it comes to old stuff like this. I checked stickies and didn't see an answer. Is there anyway to set up a server to play HoMM3 online? If not, why?

Yea, generally GameRanger is a way to go. If you really like doing things manually, I hear that ERA has improved IP search. Without that, I'm not sure what the cause is, but it just can't find other PCs on the LAN or over the Internet... Perhaps it relied on some old function that MS deprecated at some point?
