H5 Quiz: Round #4

Unread postby Kalah » 30 May 2012, 17:00

As the third round's <a href="/https://www.celestialheavens.com/admin/ ... wer</u></a> involved "eating goblins", I'm sure you will appreciate this round, which consist of both coffee and dessert: two questions in one nice little package.

- "Counting to infinity"

What is infinite power? In other words, what is the maximum possible spellpower a hero can have? Note that this limit for attack, defense and knowledge is the same.

- "Tazar's dream"

Tazar sometimes has weird dreams, where he leads soldiers impossible to kill. He has a little control over those dreams and this time he decided to check if his troops in the dreams really are impossible to kill. Your task is to give Tazar one creature and destroy whatever stands in his way.

Bad news: That freak Tazar decided to attack some <a href="/https://www.celestialheavens.com/admin/ ... <u>million Black Dragons</a></u> with just one creature!

Good news: Do you remember the name 'Tazar' from Heroes 3?

Also: You can choose your starting town type. It doesn't have to be a Stronghold, like in the picture.

H5 Quiz: Round #4

This one was a bit more difficult.

Firstly I tried out with the regenerating wyvern. It takes 1 point of damg from the dragons and regenerates 30, therefore begin invincible. Killing all the "blackies" however, would take ages. By this logic, any regenerating creature should be able to kill the dragons. Eventually.

My second ide was the Savage Treant. It's abillity to cut its defence in half and add that value to attack sounded fairly good. However, there seems to be a hard cap on a stat, where instead of increasing, the value reverts to zero. I havn't taken the time to determine this value yet, but I've made a few a observations. At what should be 2 147 483 649 defense my savage treant gets zero defense insted (this is in in the army screen). at 2 147 483 647 it retains it's defense value, and should be able to murder the dragons. However, with the same defense value, when I engage the dragons in combat it's defense is suddenley zero again! Odd.

2 147 483 642 seems to work fine in both the army screen, and in actual combat.

If the treants where able to get a turn before the dragons attack them however, perhaps things would remedy themselves and the treant would have 1 billion + attack and defense, which I believe should be enough to give the dragons a good lash.

I was thinking of a Battle griffin (battle frenzy abilty) + Fear my Roar on him... but we can't target our own creatures with it. :(

In fact Aequitas was right, Savage treant win easily. I didn't even change the hero skills, I just have removed his armor (+1 Moral, +1 Defense).
REPLAY : http://speedy.sh/JFd9Y/Treants-powa.sav
Anyway I think that's a bug because Attack bonus should be caped to +400% damage max... and here it's unlimited. (And that's the same with Defense, who should be able to reduce only ~80% (or it's 90%?) damage max.)

That's right, the key was to remove the armor and use Savage Treant's Rage of the Forest. It seems that all creatures get +1 attack and defense on native terrain. This bonus is added after tactics phase.

Damage bonus/damage reduction caps were present in heroes 3, but I don't think I heard of them in heroes 5.

Hmm... Does nobody know the answer to the first question or does everybody consider it obvious already? ;|

These are busy days IRL and news-wise, but here is the answer to the first question ...

The maximum possible spellpower a hero can have is 2.147.483.647 (2^31-1), two billion one hundred forty-seven million four hundred eighty-three thousand six hundred forty-seven. To check this, start this map and pick up the Dragon Eye Ring with Arantir. Equip and unequip it and watch the results. You could also try attacking the wolves with Ornella to see how those high stats work.
