Campaign order *warning spoilers*

I know this has been talked about already but what order do you recommend playing the campaigns in?

You can play the campaign in whatever order you desire.
However if you want to play it in chronological order, the correct order is this:

- Prologue 2

After playing through the campaign, I think some of the orders are not quite clear. For example, Necropolis 4 and Inferno 2 are closely related. But on this list they are very far apart.

In fact, in my (limited) memory these are the only clues in the game (besides the obviously chronological order within the same campaign) - SPOILER WARNING:

- Stronghold 1 -> Sanctuary 1: Sandor rescues Irina. Stronghold 2 and Sanctuary 1 should happen more or less at the same time, since the beginnings of both missions happen together.

- Haven 1 -> Necropolis 1: Jorgen was jailed after he revealed himself to be a faceless

- Sanctuary 4 -> Haven 3: The death of Gelhart reaches Anton's ear

- Necropolis 4 -> Haven 4 -> Inferno 4: Anastasya defeated Uriel, who died at the beginning of Anton's mission. Afterwards they two appear side by side in front of Kiril's mission.

Personally I don't recommend jumping among campaigns unless you build all heroes the same way. It is much harder to remember 5 playing styles than 1.

Most of missions happen in same times - like Stronghold 2 and Sanctuary 1 - they both starts in same time, just different places - Irina goes to Nagas, Sandor goes to Orcs but at begining of these two missions, Sandor fights with Wolf's pursuit.


One common thing for all campaigns is Blood Moon Eclipse - it starts:
- Stronghold: end of mission 3
- Sanctuary: end of mission 3
- Haven: end of mission 2
- Necropolis: IIRC end of mission 2 (I'm not sure if it wasn't even mission 1)
- Inferno: end of mission 1 (note: mission 4 is after Eclipse has ended, only one mission in campaign after Eclipse excluding Epilogue ofc)

It isn't mentioned at the end of sanctuary 3 nor haven 2 (although it is mentioned it'll be soon). It is mentioned at the end of stronghold 3 and you can actually see it in necropolis 2. But because visuals>text, I chose necropolis 2 as the last mission before the eclipse.
Same can be said about inferno 2 and necropolis 3. They have to be at the same time. If you play inferno 2 first you'll see sveltana who's supposed to be imprisoned at the time. And if you play necropolis 3 it's mentioned that mother namturu is under attack. Because you can actually see sveltana I chose inferno 2 to be later then necro 3. Though I could make a list which mentiones which campaigns take place at the same time.

Here you have some texts from game, check the yourself. IIRC only Necropolis campaign has an animation with visual Eclipse.
And by "end of mission X" I meant that Eclipse starts before next mission.

After suppressing a civil war within his Duchy, and setting to rest the ghosts he had awoken, Anton has also learned to master the voices that plagued him since he was a child. The Blood Moon eclipse has confirmed the prophecy of the Blind Brothers and now Demons of Sheogh have invaded the unprepared lands of Ahan. Anton has been sent to the Duchy of Wolf, to come to the aid of his father Slava's arch-rival, Duke Gerhart.

Daeva: It's fantastic. While all the other demons are just invading Ashan… we're on this dangerous quest!

- But you have also heard the warnings. The Eternal Empress tells us that the Blind Brothers have been misled, and the Demons come early.

The prophesized Blood Moon Eclipse reddens the sky over the body-strewn battlefield. The omen would have been seen as a sign from Father Sky congratulating the Orcs for their victory, had the Blind Brothers not predicted decades ago an imminent Demon invasion. As soldiers and warriors look in wonder and awe, Sandor decides the moment is well chosen to have a conversation with his disarmed foe. Sandor approaches the defeated Naga leader.

You forgot that mission in one campaign could take much more time then mission in another one. So for example Stronghold mission 2 "has not same length" as Sanctuary mission 1.
For me Inferno mission 1 starts in the middle of Haven mission 1 and ends before Haven mission 3 (when Eclipse comes).

Quick summary about campaigns. I didn't place them in chronological order but it shouldn't be hard to do that. I marked only the most important things (or these which could help with timeline).

Heart of Darkness CE map
- Aquirre is killed by Dragon Ell
- Akasha and Yume dies
- Sveltana frees Mother Namtaru

Pavel is killed by Ahribban

Proloue map 1
- Toghrul is sent back to Sheogh
- Kraal, Ulah and their tribe are settled in Griffin Duchy

War of Bitter Ashes
- Emperor Liam attacks Tuidhana elven kingdom
- Dark Elves are rised
- Gerhart fiancee and Cate sister is killed during Elves assault. Gerhart wants to married Cate but is stopped by Slava. Slava and Gerhart becomes mortal enemies.

Prologue map 2
- Cate leaves Slava to find her brother Kieran.
- Gerhart launches attack on Orcs in Griffin Duchy. He is stopped by Slava.
- Emperor Liam and Uriel order Slava to ordain his daughter Irina to married Gerhart


Sandor leaves Griffin Duchy. Irina hurts Gerhart in wedding night and is imprisoned. Slava, Anastasya, Kiril and Anton goes to imperial court to persuade Emperor to cancel wedding.


Stronghold mission 1
- Sandor frees Irina from Wolf dungeon and they both sails to Naga Islands.

Slava is killed by Anastasya.

Haven mission 1
- Anton becomes duke.
- Kiril and Sarah goes to Sheogh (somewhere in the middle of this map timeline)
- Anton banish Orcs from his lands and maybe even kills Ulah.
- Baron Djordje is killed by Salvatore.
- Anton captures Jorgen the Faceless and gives him to Inquisition.
- Anton kills Anastasya.

Haven mission 2
- Salvatore is dead, Valeska is sent to replace him.
- Three local barons rebels agains Anton and are killed or pardon.
- Anton meets his mother.
- Micheal infroms Anton, that Eclipse is comming
- Eclpise begins

Haven mission 3
- Irina conquers Wolf Duchy and kills Gerhart (before mission starts).
- Naga general Mukao is defeated and revealed to be another Faceless.

Haven mission 4
- Demons attacks Falcon's Reach
- Uriel and Liam are killed.
- Jezebeth is captured and imprisoned by ANton.
- Ahribban is imprisoned in powerful artifact, so he cannot return to Sheogh.
- Anton meets Anastasya.

Necropolis mission 1
- Anastasya returns as undead.
- Anastasya kills Salvatore and frees Elisabeth and Jorgen from Inquisition.

Necropolis mission 2
- High Priest Haffayaad starts expedition to Naga/Orcs Islands
- Elisabeth is healed by Jorgen and joins Haffayaad to search for Sandor.
- Miranda captures Sveltana
- Eclipse begins

Necropolis mission 3
- Sharka is banished from his land by Sandor and attacks Ludmilla lands.
- ANastasya meets her mother.
- Miranda is killed by Anastasya
- Anastasya and Sveltana rescue Mother Namtaru from Kiril.

Necropolis mission 4
- Demons attacks Seven Cities
- Anastasya seals seven Corrupted Dragon Nexus and banishes Demons to Sheogh.
- Uriel mind is destroyed and his body teared apart by Demons (begining of Haven mission 4).
- Anastasya meets Anton (note: it happens at end of Haven mission 4 after Ahribban is defeated).

Inferno mission 1
- Sarah binds Kiril soul with Arch-Demon Azkaal. She is also changed by touch of Urgash and begins to create Blade of Binding.
- Kiril defeats Toghrul and imprisoned him into Souldrinker Sword.
- Sarah creates Blade of Binding and cause Eclipse by this act.
- Eclipse begins

Inferno mission 2
- Kiril attacks Mother Namtaru but is stopped by Anastasya.

Inferno mission 3
- Naga and Orcs Islands are free from Demons (it happens after Stronghold mission 4).
- Kiril meets her mother.

Inferno mission 4
- Eclipse has ended, three of Demon Princes didn't return to Sheogh.
- Kiril meets Anton and Anastasya and gives Souldrinker to Anton, so Ulah could send Toghrul soul to Mother Earth (Remember when Anton was slaying Orcs in Haven mission 1? I wonder how he excuse to Kiril that he banished or killed Ulah too?:P)
- Unseen Library is moved to Sheogh.

Stronghold mission 2
- Sandor fights wth Inquisition pursuit.
- Sandor banishes Sharka from Pao Islands.

Stronghold mission 3
- Sandor meets Haffayaad and Elisabeth and helps them return to home.
- Sandor defeats Naga general Mukao.
- Orcs and Nagas join forces to stop Demons.
- Eclipse begins.

Stronghold mission 4
- Avatar of Demon overlord is killed.
- Nagas casts spell to banish all Demons from Pao Islands.


Sanctuary mission 1
- Sandor fights with Inquisition pursuit.
- Necromancers fleet threat Naga Islands (Haffayaad expedition).

Sanctuary mission 2
- Necromancers fleet threat Naga Islands (Haffayaad expedition).
- Hiroshi surrenders to Irina and she becomes new daimyo.
- Irina starts expedition to stop necromancer forces.

Sanctuary mission 3
- Haffayaad is defeated by Irina.
- Eclipse begins.

Sanctuary mission 4
- Breeder Queen is killed.
- Gerhart and Marcus are killed.
- Irina becomes new ruler of Wolf Duchy.

That's a lot of spoilers for someone who still wants to play the campaign. Besides I found a mistake:

Sanctuary mission 3
- Haffayaad is defeated by Irina.
- Eclipse begins.

The eclipse doesn't start in/at the end of mission 3. Haffayad still has to flee to the orc islands where he's saved by Sandor. At the end of that mission (stronghold 3) the eclipse begins.

I'm working on a new list which show which campaigns take place at the same time. This is what I have so far:

Well no because, like I said, the necromancers still have to flee from at the end of sanc 3 to kunyak isle (or whatever it's called) then there's still a naga invasion and then there's an eclipse.
I will move haven 2 down so it's close to the eclipse though.
