Heroes Open Beta Begins

Unread postby astral76minor » 29 Jun 2011, 19:08

@ThunderTitan

Yes. The chat window at the conflux screwed up and the mouse was off toward the bottom (alignment issue). So I restarted the computer, problem fixed. Some settings just cannot be touched and default works ok so far. You can adjust speed settings, though. Surround sound also works.

I just ctrl+alt+del the game (win7 does this nice thing where it takes you to a shut down like screen that also has a button for the task manager)... restarting the PC seems a bit too much...

Thanks. I thought that would work, too. Running Win7 64-bit. It even minimizes well, so I can write this while playing. The SSD makes a huge difference on a Xeon CPU.

Keep on playing and have fun!

XP has similar facillities, but you need to use Win+S for that. It will do a "fast switch" of your account and then you can reopen it with everything minimised.

And Linux has TTY1/TTY2 that allow you to kill programs from the command line :)

Found a major bug!

In the map, "Emperor's Will" you can hire a hero in the tavern named "Martina" with no army. Something similar happened in H3, long ago.

This occurred after defeating the Orc fort. Martina is level 6 at the time of hiring. I wonder what will happen if I go into battle with a hero that has no army. Hmm, maybe a nice POTD or just a crash.

Ok, I tried the "Print Screen" command. It would not allow me to paste it and I cannot find the folder for the screenshots. Does anyone know where the screenshots go or how to even get them?

It's also quite finicky on Windows. It sometimes doesn't work and you have to press it several times.

Unlike in KDE, where KSnapshot works every time :D

They paid you about this commercial, didn't they? :D

Anyways, will you give us, mere mortals, some feedback about the game so far? ;|

I am so happy USA gets to be on the complaining end. Maybe some things in this world won't centre around your country, mate. Accept it.

@astral76minor: in H6 you can have heroes without armies. They cannot fight, but they can interact with some objects of the adventure map. So it's not a bug ;)

So, i managed to d/l the public beta at work and brought it home today... i see they did some changes between the versions when it comes to the overmap and Conflux interface...

But they took out the AA and replaced it with V-Sync...

Too bad none of my saves work though...

So if a hero with no army wanders around, and the computer attacks it, what happens? Is the hero immune to being attacked by the computer? Or is it just an automatic defeat?

Is it along the lines of H4, when the hero could have the "Stealth" ability? Just an idea....

I am still in debate whether or not to buy this. Can someone tell me if the Beta is good. By that I mean better then heroes 5 and similar to the previous homm games?

Can someone who's played the beta tell me what kind of configuration is needed for steady play? For example, will it play on a 4 year old laptop? (say yes, say yes)

It could be a month old laptop and not play it (if, like Pol mentioned, it lacked a dedicated video card)...

We need more info about it hardware...
