Standard speed of nb hd is 5400, whilst for PC it's 7200. However for business class notebook or gaming notebook it should be always 7200 too. The difference for work flow is significant even if for games it really depends. Most games "consume" only raw power, ie CPU+GPU+RAM but for example loading screens from Kings of Bounty would benefit from it greatly. And they are not the only. ;)

Still gaming or business notebook will be having 7200rpm hdd like a standard nowadays.

(Note that for PC there are also 5900 'ECO' drives, 5400 storage drives and 5900-7200 IntelliSeek drives. And for nb there were also ultra slow 5200 rpm drives - which in fact do not work under Vista and up. System speed is undesirably unbearable.)

Go for Alienware, the nvidia gaming cards are almost adequate replacement for Professional Quadro edtitions. Just try it, if it will be working in your case. The Quadro, above everything, is mostly question of right drivers. ;)

Well I got a system:

Base Alienware M17x Laptop
Processor Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9550 (2.66GHz/1066Mhz FSB/6MB cache)
Operating System Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium
Hard Disk Drive 250 GB Free Fall Sensor Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
Memory 4 GB DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz (2 DIMMs)
Media Bay Slot Load Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW, CD-RW)
Video SLi, Dual nVidia GeForce GTX 280 1024MB
System Color Space Black
Laptop Screen 17 inch WideXGA+ 1440x900 (900p)
Laptop Battery 9 Cell Primary Battery
Network Interface Card Internal 300Mbps Dual-Band a/g/n Wireless with MIMO Technology
Bluetooth Wireless Bluetooth 2.1 module with EDR
Hardware Upgrade 210W/240W switchable Slim 3P A/C Adapter
Back-lit Keyboard
Software Upgrade 64BIT Operating System

I'm away from the house and it may be 2-4 weeks before returning to the lap top.

I do have one other small question for the gurus: It has Windows 7, which I don't have on any machine. Does the game play with 7 or do I need to format back to Win XP?

You should be able to play it under W7 I think - according the specs for ToTE.

Well I finally got home and opened my new lap top. Much to my chagrin there is a problem with the lap top. The personnel at Alienware are aware of the problem, yet nowhere was there a advisory to the problem.
What is the problem??? The laptop does not recognize the AC adapter. After calling them about it, all I got was we are aware of the problem and our programmers are working on a solution. lol

Anyway the game plays, but I do have one issue. The console does not show. I have updated the autoexec config file in the profiles folder with: setvar dev_console_password = schwinge-des-todes
added as a last statement.

In addition I have added the commands at the end in the My Games profile folder input_a2 config file:
// obsolete, but strictly need for compability with some interfaces

bind show_console '`'
bind adventure_teleport 'CTRL' + 'SHIFT' + 'T'
bind adventure_remove_object 'CTRL' + 'D'
bind fog_of_war 'CTRL' + 'SHIFT' + 'E'

When I start the game the key '`' does not bring up the console.

Any thoughts from anyone?

Are you starting the game with right keyboard set up?
(Standard is en-usa keyboard)

As for the adapter - that's not even funny. I would not expect that from Alienware. That name was used to be a great mark. Well..

Well I burned Alienware on the customer ratings.

Well the laptop is set to English USA, and I found no other setting in the files or game option to change. I thought it might be Win 7 and its "new" way or file management. In the desktop I never had any problems with console, but then the program files were in one folder, not two like Win 7 has. Program Files and Program Files (x86), where the program installed by default.

In the interval between now and my last post:
I was trying to check my wireless connection (other problem on work lap top) and I right clicked on the Dell wireless 360 Bluetooth minicard and got another little settings popup clld keyboard settings.
Currently the selected option is HID Keyboard device.
The other selections are:
MS eHome MCIR 109 Keyboard
MS eHome MCIR Keyboard
MS eHome Remote Controlled Keyboard keys
Standard PS/2 Keyboard

Now I don't know what HID Keyboard device is or whether that may change my problem.

HID - Human Interface Device (in your case likely keyboard with extra buttons) - So it's ok.
And so is "Standard PS/2 Keyboard"

MCIR - looks like Media Center IrDa Remote keyboard (just guess). Sounds like three version of keyboards for remote control. They are unimportant.

Bad is, that I do no play the game - but I think that it will be very related to it. Something specific. Perhaps another user will shed more light here. :)

Anyway you can check if the right key is pressed simply in notepad or via MSKLC. The game itself also may be altering keyboard a bit so it may work with Alt/Shift combo for example.

This may help.

The key does work outside the game. I'm guessing that key was "chosen" because it isn't used anywhere else in the codes.

Yes, hopefully someone else has had the problem and figured it out.

I found what MAY BE THE PROBLEM. The input_a2.cfg file doesn't seem to be read. Along with the:
bind show_console '`'

is

bind adventure_teleport 'CTRL' + 'SHIFT' + 'T"
bind adventure_remove_object 'CTRL' + "D"

Neither of these commands work either.

After many months of trying to get the console to work. I tried using a different "key" in this case bind show_console 'CTRL' + 'SHIFT' + 'C' and the console now works.
Thanks
