Last faction - Sanctuary

Unread postby navalsingh » 10 Mar 2011, 04:06

As per a gamespot reveal, this is the last faction and as expected a naga (i.e. snake like people in this context) one. Apologies if already posted

Game developer: Think Japan, China, India... Thailand. The inspiration for the naga comes from Asia. They are amph-...

Do they die with honour? :D

Yes, two months ago (but these were leaked, so don't really count).

Anyway, I see we have now:
Kappa King instead of Kappa Shoya (it's me or they look like froggy sumo fighter?)
Tide Maiden instead of Spring/River Spirit

EDIT:
Some of you were curious how naga mount look like:

Wow, that faction presentation video was awful... they really just need to leave it to Marzhin or something...

So they're still using the water spirit thing and it looks exactly like the water elementals we saw in that video...

Also, Sanctuary is a weak name imo. And will probably be a real nuisance to translate in other languages because it means the same thing as Haven.

Not here. Asylum, Havem and Sanctuary mean the same but are different names.

Yeah, but most languages do have a different word for Asylum on account of the loony bin being called that...

And even in english Haven straight up means Sanctuary:

But that was more of an aside, Sanctuary just sounds weak as a town name (like Preserve)...

I'd rather they use the japanese name for a castle (Shiro) or Pavilion (H3 Naga ref ftw), Pagoda or something. At least shorten it to Sanctum.

They thought out Sanctuary name and Asian concept in HV, they just use it now. They won't change it now or ever IMO. Sanctuary is not so bad name (not so good also) - it just not really fit to "attack focus on single-target" theme.
Well, Academy name for Arabian Nights theme castle wasn't IMO good choise too.

During the middle ages the arabian nights guy where basically the savants of the time... we don't use arab numerals for nothing you know. So Academy fits.

Sanctuary on the other hand has very little to do with asian culture (the names i suggested at least do, though frankly i don't like them much better either) or even water...

BTW, Asylum also works because the original concept (i think it was greek) itself was about offering protection to criminals, slaves etc.

Even though predictable, I am bit disappointed. Eastern style nagas doesn't strike me as fitting faction tbh.

The presentation was really nice. I'm actually a bit excited to play this faction. If they fit into the universe, now that's another thing. Who knows, maybe it'll work just fine.

Hmm, I think the Kirin has too much dragon features and too less deer features.

Looks close enough:

Only think i hope is that it doesn't fly in battle like in that video... what it should do is water-walk.

IMO all of the "based on some real life culture/s" factions are a bit too overt. I'd prefer that the influences would be more subtle.

Didn't they say all factions ride horses? So why not sea horses for naga?

Why?

The nagas have pretty much made me really hyped about this game. A new faction! And snake people! What's not to like?

I really like the nagas. Some of the units are very individual (love the Kappa, the Kirin is also sweet). I really like the styling and the honour system too. I especially love the look of the castle.

Not so keen on the name `shark warrior` so much though. There`s already a jaguar warrior. It`s a slippery slope I am seeing here, what`s next? Tiger warrior? Beluga whale warrior? Who knows.
