Remembering Fantasy General

Unread postby Sir Alock » 24 Feb 2011, 22:52

Well...I finally broke down & installed DOSBOX on Windows 7 64-Bit. Brushed off my copy of Fantasy General & a few tweaks later with DOSBOX I was off & running. Just to hear the music again brought back so many wonderful Pre-Pentium days (486 DX2 was my 1st rig) days! Just how far computers have come in the last 15 years (night & day)

To play a game that's nearly 15 years old & still have that "one more turn" feeling goes to show you just how good this game really is. I'm playing medium AI as Knight Marshal Calis. Started around 7:00PM & went to bed @ 2:00AM! I was dragging my ass around work today. I was so happy too see my old Sky Hunter friend "Malric" is the 2nd scenario/1st campaign.

Well...I just wanted to post about FG. I'm going to log-in a few more hours now. BTW...If antone is interested, FG plays perfectly on DOSBOX 0.74. Just needed to chnage my FG sound card settings to 220-5-3

I also have the original copy of Fantasy General. It is indeed a gem of a game, and easily the best one of the General -series.

You can also copy the audio tracks from cd and most, if not all, dos-games work fine on DosBox.

Personally I tend to use the Sorceress Mordra more often than not, since she is the only leader who enables you to use units from all "races" (meaning mechanical, magical through summoning, mortal and beast).

For those curious, I made this little gameplay video couple years back.

Yes...Humakt! Mordra is tough IMHO. It's because units don't gain exp. like sticking to one fraction. I played her years ago on med. AI & it wasn't easy! Maybe I'm just a so-so player!
