Someone is not very receptive :)
I, for one, am dying to find out what colour they paint Michael's toenails.

Pitsu's been a grouch for quite some time.

Come back to us, Pitsu, come back from the dark side! :butterfly:

These comics remind me of Asterix, which is fitting I reckon, since both are French. :)

Heheh Asterix comics were full of anachronisms and references :) Goscini was one superb and witty writer.

He wouldn't, since it would A) split his army up, and B) cost a friggin fortune, since each hero would cost about the same as a tier 6 unit before you even gave him/her any creatures.
actually that would be a pretty good idea, when you're in his territory just have your 2nd hero sit on his dragon-crystal-mine? and he has no rare resources.
Back in heroes 3 you would have endless cat and mouse games of 4 heroes flagging and reflagging their mines again and again

I don't like the system. The only benefit is that games are less random, in the sense that you often had a huge advantage or disadvantage based on what random rare resource would spawn. For example, no gems anywhere near start = dungeon screwed, can't go past minotaurs.

The strategic value is diminished though, which is a bigger drawback than the advantage. Dumbing down the game to make it more appealing to the masses is not the way to go.

Also, I'd like it explained to me how we're going to get better utilisation of resources since wood and stone (and crystal to a degree) are going to be flaming useless once the town is built.

Was it ever any different? Who knows what else will use them - I wouldn't be surprised to see those turn up elsewhere, perhaps in the H6 version of an Elemental Conflux where it takes Crystal and Stone to hire Earth Elementals? One can but assume they are being extra mindful of resource uses since they are championing the idea of less resource diversity.

IIRC someone said (it's info not from official source-Ubisoft as far as I remmeber) that higher tier creautres also would need crystals for hire.
Well - nothing new, all 7th level (or 6th in H1/2 and 4th in IV) needed resources to hire anyway.
I wonder about elites - would they also need other resources to hire?

In their latest (?) game MM:HK, which still has the 7 tier and 7 resource system 3 highest tiers cost rares. The higest tier costs no gold, but only rare.

AoW 2 replaced Homm as my favorite game and it only had 2 resources (gold and mana) and that game is WAY more strategic than homm ever has been, however, I think AoW could have been even better with more resources and I expect Homm to be worse with fewer resources.

When you're ready, use the BNW 3.2 Mod.

If you want to try AoW2, then go for Shadow Magic, a standalone expansion for AoW2. Basically it is AoW2 + some races from AoW1 which didn't make it into the second game + something new.

So there's not much of a point in trying the vanilla AoW II or is there?

Nope. Shadow Magic is what it should have been from the start.

Kind of like ToE vs prior versions of HoMM5?

Well it's got an enjoyable campaign but other than that shadow magic has it all. It's quite a different experience from homm.

I just hope that they are following Starcraft II`s lead on a lot of the decisions made so far.

The resource cull among other things points in the direction of a more dynamic, probably faster and more aggressive multiplayer experience.

If they can make simultaneous turns work properly and balance all the factions with a fine toothed comb, this might just turn into the best HOMM yet.

Or it could just be another soul-crushing HOMM shaped disappointment...

While they were at it, it is a pity that they didn`t take more graphical leads from Blizzard. Some of the creatures are a bit so-so in terms of design. That Inferno porcupine thing just looks ridiculous, spikes are not the answer to all design problems.

The graphics look a lot better than HOMMV at least. I feel that generic 3d graphics will never entirely suit a HOMM game, which should look flatter, more cartoony and less in need of anti-aliasing, but maybe it won`t be actively painful to look at this time.

Except, that is, for the observation that everything shouldn`t have to glow solar neon to attain any sort of visibility whatsoever. Resource piles, treasure chests and the entire necromancer faction, I am looking at you. With sunglasses.
