Heroes VI Dreamwalker

The Heroes VI Dreamwalker, typical might faction magic unit, the last of the Stronghold elites. Just like the Heroes IV Ogre mage?

Yes, there should be some kind of magic unit even in the Might faction Stronghold. I like the way they've done this one, story wise.

I don't like how they went back to HII style of upgrades, were they are practically the same unit with a change of wardrobe and a bit more ornamental. Especially HIII's upgrades were most of the time a lot different than the original ones. And HII of course is excused because, after all, its the instalment which brought upgrades in the first place. Plus it would be a pain in the ass to do it else in 2D. But HVI? There's no excuse for laziness and/or lack of imagination, having a material of 5 games.

Eh... except in some cases, like where the sex changed and the Naga?angel/etc. H3's upgrades where mostly just a change of wardrobe and a bit more ornamental too IIRC.

I will give you a list and take a good look at them:

Swordsman/Crusader

Angel/Archangel (they are both male, btw)

Mage/Archmage

Genie/Master Genie

Gog/Magog

Hell Hound/Cerberus

Devil/Archdevil

Wyvern/Wyvern Monarch

Hydra/Chaos Hydra

Centaur/Centaur Captain

Dward/Battle Dwarf

Troglodyte/Infernal Troglodyte

Beholder/Evil Eye

Roc/Thunderbird

Skeleton/Skeleton Warrior

Walking Dead/Zombie

Vampire/Vampire Lord

Lich/Power Lich

Take Skeleton for example. The first one is just a skeleton with a sword while the upgrade is armoured (shield, cap, boots, thorax). The walking dead wears only capri pants and has his cut-off arm for weapon; the upgrade has a real weapon, his arm is in place and wears helm and leather armour.

What I see in HVI is the same creature, same clothes, same weapons, only a bit bigger and different colour. Their idea is "change size and colour".

Longer skirts, some new horns and bigger walking stick head aren't that different from what you see in H6... i wouldn't even count the extra heads because that was just copy-pasting the same head 2 more times...

Half the units on your list shouldn't be there.

Not to say that i disagree that the Angel, Skeleton, Swordsman, Genie etc. upgrades aren't good and that they shouldn't imitate them... they should, but let's not pretend H3 had that many upgrades that where like them...

Even so, probably only one HVI unit fits the same criteria, which makes H3 upgrades 900% more original. :p

Well that one Orc unit has new, giant floating horns put on it, the Cerberus seems to have natural armour growth and the Vampire has a helmet... i guess that's something.
