Slayers is a lot of fun- I just finished watching season 5 (I noticed the box set was released last week )Pol wrote:He, he. There seems that I forgot to add a classic. So, to the wide audience, let unfold and everyone behold Slayers
Among with Ghost in The Shell they're one of the best. Although from a different sides of the genre.
Slayers are 'bout Lina Inverse, "Fire Sorceress" & her friends. Including some "Monsters"
Now possibly return this thread to a grave state where it was before..
Most titles I watch are the free on-demand stuff on my cable system (currently bamboo sword and Buso Renkin; the former isn't spectacular so far- I've only seen 4 episodes- but the latter has been interesting)

Well, Bleach got out of the fillers again and it's got a fairly good animation these days...Naruto as well.
Has anyone ever watched BERSERK anime? I was curious to know if it's nearly as good as the manga.

"Berserk" is good, even though it ends in the middle of nowhere. Never read the Manga, though...
I am watching "Cowboy Bebop" now (I mean NOW ). Only thing I don't like is the series are like a random adventures and not like a whole; storyline wise. This annoys me. I know there is something SLOWLY developing, but perhaps way too slowly and (perhaps) sporadic.
These days will make up on Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood with my gf, haven't watch an episode in like two months with that school, so it will be a nice marathon.

Anyone who watches/watched Hellsing?

I didn't watch Bleach fillers either. They are so alike with the first ones that it seems people just lack imagination. Even the manga has become something rather boring. I'm just reading it for the sake (and maybe because I'm a bit too proud) of finishing it.Mirez wrote:those bleach fillers lasted forever, I really don't bother watching them anymore, they are soooo bad, atleast naruto fillers have somewhat to do with the main plot
Naruto fillers are dull, imho. They have some fun but you are sure that nothing out of ordinary will happen. So they toss new characters into being just to kill them a little later, so I don't bother watching them either. But then Pain battle reapeared and I just had to watch again (even reading the manga).
Berserk manga ROCKS. Not only because of the porn appeal (not panda porn, sorry, TT), or violence, or these mundane things we like so much , but the characters indeed have a background. They are really attaching, the mind-plots are very developed and you grow fond of everyone, even enemies (thank God they are cool too) and also - good characters die.
I cannot even compare how boring Bleach is in that point of view: NOBODY DIES. Naruto had some important deaths, ok, but Bleach...
Berserk is a good option to start reading. The bad part of it is that it's not finished and its chapters are very randomly released. Sometimes getting 200 days to have a new chapter released instead of 15 days, which seemed to be the regular basis a couple of years back then.
I watched Hellsing. I sort of like it, but I really don't remember it very well.

Re: Anime
Grave of the Fireflies (a sad movie about trying to survive during a war, was released as a double feature with Totoro, which is why they failed so hard in theatres, one of Roger Ebert's top rated films of all time. First animated film to make me cry.), Pom Poko (a story of raccoons of Japanese folklore trying to survive in the modern world, an environmentalist message. Both of these are by Isao Takahata, also of studio Ghibli. Warning, in Pom Poko the male racoons have exposed balls like the Tanuki statues of Japan) Isao also made another film. Only Yesterday is what it's called. It was supposed to be a chick flick but gained success with both genders.Corribus wrote:I enjoy anime movies, but my viewing repertoire is somewhat limited. With a few exceptions, the ones I have seen are limited to those by Miyazaki. These are many of them absolutely beautiful films. I was wondering if there are any anime fans out there and, if so, if you would be kind enough to suggest a few that have the production quality of the Miyazaki films. I would like to add some to my Netflicks queue.
Not porn of course.
Metropolis is the Dystopian prequel to Astroboy that explains how robots get feelings somewhat.
Black Jack is based on another character by Osamu Tezuka (Maker of Astroboy and considered Japan's Walt Disney).
Out of Miyazaki films have you seen Nausicaa? Porco Rosso? Totoro? Castle in the Sky? Howl's Moving Castle? Ponyo?

I watch(ed):
Some of the better known series:
-naruto, bleach, one piece and full metal alchemist
Alltough I just ended up reading the manga on wich it is based after a while.
I do watch a new episode now and then just to see it animated.
Not so well known (I think..):
-karas: only 6 episodes, but very high quality
-fairy tail: Something newer. I actually got to know this through the manga. I think it's better then most other series since the story doesn't progress too slow.

Watched "Highschool of the DEAD" two weeks ago and must say I enjoyed it, even though the amount of boobs and sexual hints was a bit too much, but still an interesting and exert zombie anime. If you like something to chill out with and are of zombie movies, check it out. Don't expect a masterpiece of a storyline, just have fun with the series.
Now I am starting "Code Geass". Hope it gets that better like everyone is talking about. Kinda surprised it was mech anime, though. Hope it is at least the class of "Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann".
