Fortress level 6 dwelling
Quick question: when I play dwarves, I usually find myself skipping the Clan Halls building. I know dwarves need a good damage-dealer and a good flyer, and thanes are the only ones that fill that role. But I can never manage to find 20 spare crystal.
Which is very different from just requiring 20 rare resources.
When I do have crystals, it goes to dragons and mage guilds first.

i know theyre really cheap in comparison but i often skip the lvl 4 dwelling which is the brawlers i think.
brawlers really suck balls imo.
also i go for the resource silo asap which obviously helps ya get thanes. not only are thanes op theyre fun to use. one of the coolest units in the game i reckon

Metathron: so you will only creep with blackbear riders, ammo cart, skirmishers and rune of charge for two whole weeks? You can fight shooters or slow walkers, but what about fast walkers or flyers?
Lumpoor: thanes without upgrades are kinda underpowered because you don't usually get to hit more than 1 stack during creeping, and 8-12 damage to one stack is pathetic. Why should I get those before I get dragons?
Their only real use is during a human battle when you load the thunder thanes with multiple offensive runes and then hit his whole army multiple times. Or is there a better use for them?

thats no minor thing right there.Their only real use is during a human battle when you load the thunder thanes with multiple offensive runes and then hit his whole army multiple times. Or is there a better use for them?
when it comes to your final battle thanes are often the unit that tips the balance in my favor
once I used my 150 thunder thanes to destroy my freinds sylvan army we played hotseat in the Underground map which allows HUGE armies
so waht I did was I let him shot the thanes with druids since I blinded his archers u DON't want to get hit with 350 arcane archers.
anyhow few thans die so now I can use bresk rune I do that and wait
the armies were pretyy scattered now and the thanes were up again I put the battlerage rune and DAMMMMMMM I tele in the middle of the battle and the Thane started BAMAMANBNAMAMANAAMANANAMAMAMMAM lightning jumped 100000 times allover
it was the most beautifull thing I have ever seen my freind almost snapped my laptop in 2 and we reloaded to have another go lets say he learned NOT to let that happen again hehe
so ya thanes = awsomeness

Thanes are the best
In my opinion they are the best unit in the dwarves' arsenal. Nobody else offers so many strategic and tactical possibilties.
With thanes on the battlefield the enemy has to be careful about clustering. Practically all the runes are useful on Thanes.
Does anyone have difficulty playing dwarves? I can't do much with most dwarven units. The only other decent unit must be the dragons.
As for brawlers: they are useful only as cannon fodder. They don't do enough damage, they don't get a chance to use their special abilities, and computer always targets them.

Well, I don't know. I kinda like most of the stuff the Dwarves get.
Defenders (Or whatever they're called), they're level 1 creature? He's very tough for a level 1 creature so he can take alot of damage but he doesn't do much damage. Good to have as a diversion.
Skirmishers: The crippling wound is very good. Other than that he's practically worthless, but that makes it up to him.
Bear riders: Well. Basic damage dealing assault unit. Strangely enough, he's actually got similar or better stats than -
The Brawler: Who is basicly a Bear Rider but in one tile only. I don't get this unit. His growth is faster than the Bears too. SOmehow, Fortress got two level 3 units, and no Level 4.
Runic Priests: Well. Shooter, 'nuff said.
Thanes: The real powerhouse in the fortress. But we all know that. I agree that an unupgraded Thane is only really powerful in early game. After that, he's kinda worthless. But upgraded is the shit. Pick any upgrade, I guess.
Dragons: Slow as hell, and useless in sieges. Need some haste on that boy, and he's good to go because he's one hell of a damage dealer.

lets discuss dwarves
Hey EvilNed
I thought I'd respond to your post to learn more about these shorties.
1) Defenders/ Level 1 Shorties are all useless in creeping and damage dealing. They're good to have with their shields and defense, and really useful in defense, but still it doesn't help you creep. And dwarf heroes have no attack or spellpower, so it makes early game very painful.
2) Yup I always use skirmishers not harpooners. But when you need real damage dealing in early game, they are as useless as zombies. 2 shots inflict almost no damage so your're stuck praying for a crippling hit.
3) Bears r good, but Brawlers are so sux. So again dwarves are very weak in mid-tier.
4) Runic priests very useful, but numbers are limited. Kind of like Dungeon creatures, good but too few. Unlike Dungeon heroes, Dwarven heroes are not damage dealers. So again I'm stuck.
5) Dragons useful in defense. To attack, really need to get Power of Teleportation.
ANYONE WHO CAN SUGGEST HOW TO IMPROVE MY DWARF PLAYING, PLEASE SPEAK UP! THANKSSSSS!

I'd suggest trying battle frenzy with shieldguards, can make them pretty effective in creeping. Dragons are actually pretty good at dishing out damage. Generally a runemage has the most flexible hero, can go magic, might, defense, offensive or a hybrid. With luck, retribution and runes damage can go pretty high. Add a mass RM or bless.
I, for one, am dying to find out what colour they paint Michael's toenails.

My comment point by point:
1) Shieldguard is cool for first line defender, they are damage resistable in first touch because "Shield Wall". cheap enough.
2) skirmishers prety often do wound of his target and this is very usefull sometimes
3) Bears are very good, but Battlerager's bash + higher initiative is cool.
4) Runic priests sux, expensive and numbers are limited.
5) Dragons is usefull in defense and atack, low initiative but rune of charge make them lethal
my english sux..
