Tote - Hunting the Hunter - How to beat final hero

Does anybody have any tips on how to beat the final hero in the mission "hunting the hunter"? I have claimed all castles but the last castle. I have a hero who has quite a big army, and lots of good artifacts; and I keep trying to build the army; nevertheless, I can't win against this last hero. He seems to have very strong magic and can wipe out all of my stacks very quickly. I have a couple of thousand centaurs. He seems to be able to wipe out a few hundred with one spell. Even my most powerful creatures go down quickly. I'm stuck!

Find the tear of asha; the bonus army that it will give you after a few weeks should be enough to beat the last academy hero.

Develop also the second barbarian castle in the mid north of the map.

*** tips ***

after you get the last academy castle the map is not finished, another hero (haven faction) will appear in the north of the map, so try to keep alive most of your troops during the fight.

Thanks for your reply.

I took a look at the walkthrough and find the place with the tear of asha, but when I go there, the shovel remains gray, and digging in that area produces no results.

Should the shovel light up if I am in the right place? I am right in the place indicated by the walkthrough map, but nothing.

I can't believe how long I've been stuck on this mission. I'm starting to think it will never end!

You need a full day's movement to dig, so if you've even moved one hex that day, you need to end your turn and wait for a fresh day before digging.

Unfortunately I'm still stuck on this mission. I have dug in exactly the place shown in the walkthrough, and all around that area, but I haven't gotten the Tear of Asha.

Update:

Finally managed to get through this mission. But just by waiting and building up a huge army, which allowed me to take the last castle, and then the red hero at the end.

So if anyone else has trouble finding the Tear of Asha, this is another way to do it.
