Error Instaling Gathering Storm

Hi All,
Great site!
I recently got back into playing H4, (after giving my original CD to my nephew). I bought a new CD, installed it but this one is labeled ‘Ubisoft’.

Well anyways here's my issue. After purchasing the 'Ubisoft' version of H4 from Amazon, and trying to install Gathering Storm (Which I bought years ago at my local BB when 3DO was still around), I get an Error message that says H4 must be installed before installing Gathering Storm.....Oh the frustration!

It had worked a long time ago when I had both versions coming from 3DO, but now the only difference I can see is that the H4 CD I bought from Amazon is different in someway. I have tried to update H4, but find that it is already at 2.2.0.1, and the patches I have been able to find all lead up to this version. Has anybody seen this error before? Any help would be appreciated, I am going through H4 withdrawls

thats wierd
maby its something to do with the ubisoft edition, that ubisoft has alterd the install thingy so if you got the 3DO and what to install the ubisofts version you cant, due to ubisoft may have alterd the install string that is installed to regedit.
Another reason why ubisoft can go F¤%&K them self.

On amazon you can see there is named 3DO edition and ubisoft edition

But if you cant install the game I would sugest you go down to the store and tell them the problem.

Yeah and a other thing.
I dont know what you have done/not done on you computer, but..
Go in the Add/Remove Programs and see if you can spot Heroes Of Might And Magic 4.
As I said I dont know what you have installed or not

H4 is installed, and I can play that just fine. I just can't install Gathering storm. It gives me an error saying that H4 needs to be installed first, but I have already installed H4.

Also when I try and patch from 2.2 to 3.0, I get an error that says:

"Missing or Invalid Registry/INI Entry" after clicking OK it starts to install, reaches 63% and gives an error that says:

"OLD Files Does Not Exist" after clicking ok to that, the screen disappears and nothing happens.

I do think that it's an issue with Ubisoft now repackaging H4. When I installed it, the registry entries are now under Ubisoft, where they used to be New World Computing. This may very well be the conflict. Anybody else encountered anything like this?

I have heard about problems with patching/ installing expansions to Ubi Homm4 release, but i do not remember any working solution. You could mail to Ubi customer support and ask if they know the reason and solution.

I may have better luck talking to my wall, but thanks anyways. I think I will go out and buy the DVD with everything on it. That way hopefully no more problems.

Ubisoft is just fine, nothing to complain about there since some of us have well-functioning Ubisoft editions of H4. But if you want to you can just buy the edition with both H4, Gathering Storm and Winds of War. It doesn't cost much. In this edition everything is modified to be compatible with each other, so it's all installable. That's my advice

Another solution could be to download some of those maps that are on the Gathering Storm from the Internet.

The third solution I have for you is: If you have an antivirussystem that protects from all kinds of threats (not just internet ones) then check that it is not set to protect you from such things as files containing violence. Parental control...It worked for me once with another game.
