I got an e-mail from THQ, where they offered DoW2 + bonuses for 50€ (digital download) and DoW2 is on Steam for 50€ (without bonuses)Avonu wrote:Pro-order? What for?
also for example Valve offered for pre-ordering Orange box access to Team Fortress 2 beta (one month before official release) and a bit lower price too...if you were waiting for TF2 like me, would you just let that be?

Immortal Emperor, give me strength....did you even understand my post?
Pre-order doesn't have to mean that you will play the game earlier (it depends on the company and on Steam the release date is fixed, so you can't fool it (except the TF2 or L4D actions, but that was because Valve wanted to do so). There is even a timer to show remaining time to unlock the game for public). Pre-order means that you will get something extra for that (be it in-game bonuses, or stuff like that). But if you are a fan, you probably have it already pre-ordered to get it ASAP and with some extras (usually). That TF2 was just an example of what you can get for pre-ordering)

I said preorder, not proorder. Anyway. Two people came to get their copy. That's all. A godforsakenly boring dayAvonu wrote:Pro-order? What for?
To complain that they can't play game because it needs Steam activate which is one day after they recive their game copy?
This minor magical charm captures the viewer's attention and distra... ooo, pretty...

Of course not - but if company send game copy to clients earlier (as in this case) why they can't play game when they recive it?klaymen wrote:Pre-order doesn't have to mean that you will play the game earlier
No, that's not true.klaymen wrote:Pre-order means that you will get something extra for that (be it in-game bonuses, or stuff like that).
Pre-order means that you have your game even if it currently unavailable (example: all sold in first day) - you ordered it earlier, paid for that and you will have your copy.
Bonuses, sending game earlier or other things (betatests for these who pre-order games) are only... bonuses to client. Game company can but don't have apply these bonuses in marketing.
Sorry for that - I was sure I posted pre-order ("o" must remain from editing of my post and I wrong read all word).Milla aka. the Slayer wrote:I said preorder, not proorder

No, if he was really dead he'd prob just be reborn, either as a warp entity or a new body (his origin is that he's the reincarnation of a bunch of Shamans). Then again that's old canon, don't know if they kept it for 5th Ed.Avonu wrote: He's dead so he can't help you.
Because they have to activate it on Steam, and it didn't allow it before the street date... then again there are ways around it, aren't there...Avonu wrote:Of course not - but if company send game copy to clients earlier (as in this case) why they can't play game when they recive it?

I want to play this, but...
Me and my brother went for a stroll through a few malls yesterday, to check out whats new on the shelf. Lo and Behold! Dawn of War II!!! And... oh no, online activation, steam etc. etc. (Well, actually I kinda expected this). I was looking forward to the game (even if it is a bit of a dissapointment compared to the first one).
Almost EVERY game needs this these days. And I have been a avid gamer for more than 15 years. I don't have a internet connection, so I am being left on the sideline. And a lot of friends I know as well. So now I am scanning the underground for ways to play this game. At university we could'nt online activate - but to be honest, piracy is rampant there either way.
Even my brother has turned to torrents! He's a little angel when it comes to playing games. He's actually a bit annoying.
Sooooo, what has this got to do with Dawn of War II? Well, I went for the bargain bin and found HOMM V gold (Oh Yes!), CM Dirt, King Kong, and Lost Planet Colonies (I know, I know... but it's not that bad).
All for the price of DoW 2 and NO STEAM, INTERNET ACTIVATION!!! Maybe I should check out the bargain bin in two years again
My borther ordered Godfather and Overlord.
Aaaaanyway.......
Sorry for this whole sad story but I am actually just blowing off some steam - no pun intended
Just a side note to some 'Software Angels': Please show more consideration to people who are frustrated with Steam and activations etc. even if you have or had no problem with it. I have been really bad-mouthed because I try to voice my dissapointment and I am NOT a supporter of Swedish crazy - all free software - piratebay ideologies. I just want to play a game and I don't want my gaming to cost me a extra R600 (about $60 for 4GB limit) or more a month plus the cost of a game I buy. I'm still paying off studies and R600 for internet is a luxury right now.
I pray that HoMM VI will not leave me on the sideline as well.

YOU ARE KIDDING ME!!! We are being ripped off
I'm from South Africa... $10, thats about a R100. Could be more but still, it's insanely cheap.
Wait, is'n't the 128kbs slow? My dad uses 512 or 1024 kbs or something like that at his business. So, how much would that be... 512 for instance in your country? Just curious...

Well, you can buy retail version and then and find any crack or illegal version (to avoid internet activation). IMO you should have clear conscience about that, because you will actually own it. If you will get your own internet connection, you can just delete the illegal version and install (and activate) and play your bought game as if nothing happened.

I don't want to get too much heat for hoping/saying this:
I don't mind DRM as long as hackers/pirates give me a small alternative installation file to bypass this nonsense (so I don't need to download the whole bloody thing). I have found one for Lost Planet while I waited for it's delivery, and only then noticed it does'nt need it.
But enough of this DRM talk. It's anyway WAY OFF TOPIC. Sorry for that.
(Maybe I should rather start a new thread.)

10 Euros... at least i think so, this crisis keep changing the exchange rate... but i said 128kbs as the minimum... most good providers have 512kbs and up... (i'm talking real, guaranteed speed, not advertised).Gekneldeland wrote: Wait, is'n't the 128kbs slow? My dad uses 512 or 1024 kbs or something like that at his business. E.g.
CZone (kinda the biggest, or at least owned by the biggest) says they give 2mbps outside the country, with 10 inside and 100 on their network (which they share with other providers too) for 10$ (under at the current rate actually) and go up from there to under 20$ for 8 mbps. Most others go this way too...
MIT Net on the other hand just says it guarantees 128kbps min. with a max of 10 mbps (of course max is only reached inside the country), and 100mbps metropolitan (the network most providers share anyhow) for 12-13$...
From my experience they both work about the same (or they did a year or two ago).
And everyone offers unlimited access.
And this is what's ruining PC Gaming... everyone uses cracks etc. and publishers assume they're pirating it... of course that's BS: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7960498.stmI don't mind DRM as long as hackers/pirates give me a small alternative installation file to bypass this nonsense (so I don't need to download the whole bloody thing).
