Hi all! Just had a quick question that some of you may be able to help w/ -
I just recently got back into the MM games courtesy of BDJ and Maestro's mod. (thanks so much guys!!) MM6 and MM7 work fine, but when I try to play MM8 the following happens: I see the 3DO intro screen w/ sound. After that, I immediately hear the first sound of what I imagine is the title screen, but the visual stays at the end of the 3DO intro and freezes. I tried snooping around the net and didn't come across anything similar. I am using the MAT fix that is on the celestial heavens site as well as have tried running it in win95 and win98/ME modes but to no avail. I currently have a intel quad core system running Vista 64, and am thinking one of those two things also might be the problem, but if so, I can't find anyone that has duplicated it or any fixes for it. Can any of the bright minds around here help, I'd love to replay MM8 w/o having to result to a XP duel boot. Thanks;):)

Getting MM8 to work in Vista 64
Here's what I did (shotgun tactics, I did a number of things to cover all bases) about twenty minutes ago, when I finally got around to installing M&M 8 again (I have Vista x64 SP2 Beta) ->
Download and install the Direct X installer from M$oft (Microsoft) homepage.

Download and install VLC Player to guarantee there is no codec that you cannot play (I've yet to find a song, movie, or short clip that VLC hasn't been able to handle).
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
Download and install the M&M8 XP patch (unofficial), either by googling it or using the following link (just uploaded the unofficial patch to filefront)...
http://files.filefront.com/mm8+eng+xpex ... einfo.html
In the install folder, were the EXEs are, launch using MM8Setup.exe.
With that, make it run with Software 3D mode, full screen.
Also make sure the "Disable Accelerated 3D Audio" box is not checked. Run it in DirectSound3D Sound Emulation. It doesn't matter if it sticks after this (mine automatically disabled after, but it doesn't matter as the game launches without freezing now).
Now, simply launch the game. I am fairly confident that the cause of the freeze up was the into process. It plays a number of intro flicks on the first launch.
With that said, after all of this, you can set the graphics bit back to Hardware Accelerated 3D, and ignore the 3D sound option, if you so please.
Hope I was of help.
