Yah, quite unusual for this area, though; usually hovering around freezing this time of year - and if it's cold, there's usually snow. This time, there's a high pressure system making sure the weather is completely calm. T'is nice.

It's part of the Gulf Stream passing by with hot water. Without it I think this place would be quite cold. One time I was driving inland, away from the coast, I thought the heater in my car had broken as it kept getting colder. I got a shock when, upon exiting at a gas station, it was below -30 C outside. My poor heater did all it could after all.

Swaw around in the snow some more today. Had to shovel about two metric tons of it first, but boy, was it fun.
In Vestby, my mom has been unable to get home from work. She drove home, only to find that the local street had not been plowed, and so she had to return and sleep at her job. I guess the plowing people are busy; stories are circulating the papers on how Oslo airport had to close, and how people in cars are crashing every which way on the highways. I honestly can't believe the descendants of the Vikings can't handle a four-day snowfall. I know for sure I don't have a problem. Environmentalists say that then the Gulf stream stops, Norway will look like this all year. Bring it on!

At least you get a healthy amount of snow before the city shuts down. Here, if the weatherman even hints at snow we get all panicky and close schools and stuff.
We had about half a foot of snow last week - that'll probably about do it for the whole year. It hit 21°C yesterday and today so the snow's all gone now.

What's with the closed schools? Surely the schooling is indoors. Is it from the rough roads, which means only some kids will be able to show up, which is unfair? I think I've gotten one day of from school because of weather; it was a hurricane and stuff was flying through the air. A friend of mine once got hit in the head by a piece of roof while biking in a hurricane. Luckily for him it was a styrofoam plate, and not corrugated iron.
Every place that get snow at least some winters ought to have ploughing crews and a plan.
Hey, how can you go from a foot of snow in one week to 21°C? Or is that F (not that I know how hot/cold that it). And how do you get that little circle thing next to the number (I got it by copying yours)?

The terrain around here is quite hilly. I think the powers that be are worried about school busses going out of control on icy roads with children onboard. And yes, that's 21° Celsius. I was kind enough to convert it for you. Any explanation as to how the crap we can go from winter to summer in a week would involve me making stuff up.
To type a degree (°) symbol, it depends on your OS:
Windows: Alt+0176
Linux: Ctrl-Shift-U 00b0

What happened to trekking for one week over snowy hills to get to school every day, eh, eh, I ask you, kids these days.Kristo wrote:The terrain around here is quite hilly. I think the powers that be are worried about school busses going out of control on icy roads with children onboard.

And it didn't work for me until I tried those Num Keys.
I was using the Character Map to write the degree symbol before knowing this.
As for the weather, it's pretty nice, but from the news it said that from tomorrow it will be cold again... don't know if it's true or not.

It's cold as a ***** today; -8,9°C is unusual for these parts. I was walking home after leaving the car at the menders, and it was just like being back in Tromsø.
Quite beautiful scenery, though. Sunshine and everything. I like.

I was watching on the news that there are having many places with fire in Australia. Are our aussie friends ok? 131 people dead until now - almost the same number caused by the flooding around my city in november. =/
But they said some of the fire may be criminal...
