Tribes of the East questions

Unread postby Apples » 24 Jan 2009, 07:33

I just got Tribes of the East after already having the original Heroes V and Hammers of Fate. I didn't notice until I got it that Tribes of the East said it can be run without having Heroes V.

But anyways, a couple questions:

- It looks like everything from HoF and the original Heroes V is included in ToE. Is it safe to just give HoF and Heroes V to someone else?

- I played a quick multiplayer game, and I wasn't able to upgrade or build half my buildings. It said: "Upgrade level limit for this building in this town has been reached". Looking at other forums, it said that some maps will only allow you to build certain buildings? How can I tell which maps limit my buildings?

ToE is standalone and you don't need the others at all. The only thing ToE doesn't have over the original and HoF are the campaigns, which can even be downloaded legally from Age of Heroes.

Yes, some maps don't allow everything to be built. You can't know this unless you know the specific map. But the majority of the maps allow you to build everything though.
No matter how powerful one becomes, there is always someone stronger. That's why I'm in a constant pursuit of power, so I can be prepared when an enemy tries to take advantage of me.

Do you have the link to the campaign downloads?

If you only keep ToE you will miss out on SOME correctly working fan made maps.

One that I remember is Lord Garrick Stahlrad by Myythryyn. When you (finally) get above ground, you can capture a castle which should be or become a Necropolis. If you run the map in ToE it becomes a Barbarian Stronghold. I think its because the map was written with the editor from H5 or HoF and the editor has a command similar to, "Change town 3 to town type 1 on capture". Town type 1 would be a Necro but in ToE is a Stonghold.

The map is still playable but becomes more tedious.

There are other examples, but this one comes to mind as it is one of my favourite fan made maps.

So it depends what you are looking for. I believe all fan made maps will run in ToE but you may get some strange effects if you run in ToE a map made with another editor.

We will either find a way, or we will make one. Emperor Hannibal.
