Elemental: War of Magic from Stardock appears to be the sequel we've been dreaming about.
I have seen & heard about it.Angelspit wrote:Elemental: War of Magic from Stardock appears to be the sequel we've been dreaming about.

I would be nice to have a MOM sequel.
If you haven't played Age of Wonders 2:Shadow Magic I recommend you try it. I've always considered it to be the successor to MOM. Shadow Magic is a stand alone expansion of AOW2. Aditionally, there is a fan made patch (unoficial version 1.4) that I recommend.

I'm sure Stardock will do a great job in their version of MOM.

Do you know what is more sad? That Stardock's Gamer's bill of rights, which Brad "whiny brat" Wardell (Stardock CEO) so boasted about.ThunderTitan wrote: Man, that is so sad...

It seems that Demigod launch failure was not enough for them to learn, but w/e.

If you bothered to check out the links in the article i linked to you'd see that once head got cooler they did apologise and admitted they made a huge mistake... so at least there's that.
And the bill of rights thing is still on their website.
I think this is a great example of why at least the final beta stage should include the full game (of course with no SP missions, maps or models etc.) so you can see if the game is indeed ready for release on the multitude of PC configs out there and other stuff.
and wasn't Demigod a GPG release?! (plus, the problem there was that they stupidly made the game connect to their servers on it's own, pirated or not).

Ironically, the death of the PC gaming mass market might be the best thing that ever happened to it. You're always complaining about how games are made for the masses to buy rather than to actually be good. If the masses aren't buying games anymore, then the only hope anyone has is for games to actually be good. If your game sucks in such a world, you'd actually make no money.

Problem is that they are buying games... console games... that then get ported to the PC... or both versions are made at the same time, but the emphasis is on making it "work" on the console, and we get mediocre titles because of it, especially for genres that don't sell all that well on consoles anyway. Genocide is still the only way to make sure I say...
EDIT: Plus, Pc gaming isn't dying, people just have stupid sales expectations because how much some console games sell... i'm willing to bet that sales for Pc games have been stable, if not rising over the last decade, just not as much as console game sales.

If that bill of rights was not just a PR BS and he would uphold it, he would not have to apologize for anything.ThunderTitan wrote:If you bothered to check out the links in the article i linked to you'd see that once head got cooler they did apologise and admitted they made a huge mistake... so at least there's that.
Yes, it was a GPG release, however Brad The Self-Righteous was just spewing all over at anyone who dared to point out the flaws.ThunderTitan wrote: and wasn't Demigod a GPG release?!
Though if your game sucks and you don't have balls to admit it, you can still blame pirates.Kristo wrote:If your game sucks in such a world, you'd actually make no money.

Actually, from someone always being on the high ground, someone claiming that his DD service is the second largest worldwide after Steam (which is a flat out lie, since many games on Impulse are regionally more restricted than Soviet gulag) I expect nothing less, but the perfection all the time.
Or stopping with the empty boasts, though that is unlikely.
