I'm a Chrome user and I still find their search engine recognition more efficient than the whole "procedure" you describe above.Pol wrote:You can create a quick search. So for example by writing "g heroes" in address bar you will look for heroes word in google.
For this, move yourself to the google, right click into search field, pick Add a keyword for this search, name bookmark, insert g into as keyword and save. Optionally you can move up your newly created bookmark into Quick Search folder.

Hmm, that's not so a big news. Even from ancient times here were ways how to search multiple engines by one click. Only I found this technique worthy of reminding. Because it's here than it gets lost and so on perpetually in the flow of the time. A good functions should always stay with us.
I don't needed multiple search but I wanted fast, one click, seek up the google from address bar possibility. And I had got it.
Well, extensions, atm I'm using: Foxsaver, NoScript, TorButton, FEBE, ImageBot, DownThemAll, Pterodactl, Flashblock, TabURLCopier (here are probably better choices for the last one).
It does cope well with ff3.0.3
I'm also using some variable heap of bookmarklets, they provided yourself to be extra useful at some times.

What about CookieSafe? Coupled with NoScript it makes your comp very hard to crack (especially if you are competent enough)

All humans do is to go to a place, bountiful of nature, and live there. Then the human multiplies and sucks all the wonders there. They move to the next. There is one thing that works the same way as that: a virus.

It's 79 now for me.
But yes I know what you mean, it is annoying when it gets higher.

I never checked before, but maybe you're right. I'll have to close FF when it gets that high and re-open it)

Chrome is my default browser for a couple of weeks, and it's clearly more memory friendly as compared to Firefox & Opera (so far at least - but I can only hope that the final version will not be more memory demanding than this beta).Angelspit wrote:I've seen worse. Especially when the program has been running for quite a while. Chrome appears to be a bit more memory-friendly, but maybe that's because I haven't been using it much.

Most efficient graphical browser in the world is dillo, it's also most unfinished one and linux exclusive only.
Second to that would be w3m, again linux text-graphical hybrid.
On the third position it will be also linux, regarding if that will be Konqueror or Epiphany.
And then perhaps Chrome, if you need only viewing - which isn't my case. Life is never so easy.
As for the firefox is known memory eater, it's stout and sturdy in terms of memory feast. (Contrary to that K-Meleon isn't.) But it offers, behold, extensions. Bummer! No one can compete these ones easily.

Just wondering about Internet Explorer - does it need even more memory than Firefox?
If yes then that's seriously one of the most worst browsers...

No it does not. And IE8 looks like turning out very well.

If judged only from that perspective, they're both same as bad (with FF maybe the worst). But that's not the only thing that matters in a browser.Asheera wrote:Just wondering about Internet Explorer - does it need even more memory than Firefox? If yes then that's seriously one of the most worst browsers...
On the other hand, I have to admit, I'm giving all browsers a chance every few months - usually when I read that there's been an update to one of them. And while I understand why IE is still no.1 (2/3rds of the PC users are either computer illiterates or simply too lazy to try sth new), I hardly get why FF is the "indisputable" no.2. It's one of the most memory eating browsers and it seems you need to install quite some plug-ins and dig deep in the settings, in order to get from it what other browsers actually have from start. I mean, I can give it 10 mins of my time to install it and check the first homepage that comes after the installation, which should point me towards most important plug-ins and settings. But I won't give it hours of my time digging for answers, downloading/installing plug-ins & stuff...
I'm not lazy, I just have more important things to do with my time. And for *my* browsing needs, Chrome gives me that from the beginning - no need of any special plug-ins. I just spent 10 mins first time I installed it to watch the video which explains how you can make use of its coolest features and it was enough (as I have the feeling some ppl installed it, saw one or another feature can't be found where they expected, and then gave up on it). Also, next to Chrome, I still use the good old Netscape which - even with no updates - it still works correctly in some web applications where FF or Opera are failing. And to complete the list of browsers I prefer to use, I'll add Flock (which I'm surprised nobody ever mentions) which also behaves better than FF in some of the web applications I'm often using.

Of course the memory usage is not the only thing that matters.
And Firefox 3 entered the Guinness World Records for the number of downloads it received in the first day.
(at least that's what I read)
Frankly, as you say, I don't know what makes it so popular.
