Whacky idea: Pick up weapon

Unread postby Metathron » 09 Sep 2008, 17:01

My army of blood furies and stalkers have just slaughtered a pack of wraiths, and the only sign of the wraiths left on the battlefield was their scythe. Now that got me thinking. Wouldn't it be neat if troops could pick up certain objects, like the scythe or a lich's staff, vampire's sword and others, and so gain new, nowhere else used powers and abilities, for the duration of the battle? This is just a germ of an idea, but if it could ever be polished and executed (perhaps in HoMM VI?) I think it would be a very exciting and fun concept. :oex:

Whaddya think?

Well, it sounds nice, but i don't think it is going to work. Due to the fact that you first need a turn to pick up the weapon, and then use it. By the time you picked up the enemies weapon, you are done with the combat, and thus you did useless stuff. Would only be great in a large battle. But maybe it's indeed awesome to upgrade the troops by giving them items :). Throw in some variaty of items, and you can make your army more diverse, or better in some ways they must (i dunno, like 15% more chance of critting, or something WAY better)... Good thinking there, NOW READ NIVAL!
You can either agree with me, or be wrong...

Who says it has to be like that? We're the ones making the rules here. :)

The way I imagined it, no turn would be wasted on picking up the weapon, but the weapons would only give bonuses within the current battle, if only because things get too complicated otherwise.

Of course, some creature + weapon/object combinations might need to be reconsidered perhaps, e.g. shieldguards wielding a scythe twice or more their size. :D

And you could collect special reagents from monsters that could be used to forge magic items or to give other bonuses. Like for example, you could use the ashes of a twice-dead phoenix to give a one time boost to a destructive spell. Or you could use the heart of a dragon as part of the process to create a magical staff.

and btw... what special bonuses would the peasant pitchfork give? :|

ROFL so hard!!

Why do you even have to ask? A peasant's pitchfork would give you the ability to eat all day and never get full, so you could be almost as fat as a peasant.

Speaking of, that's always bothered me. Aren't peasants supposed to be poor? Where are they getting all this food to eat? And also, shouldn't they be working off all those calories farming out in the field? I mean really Nival... get your act together. Make them realistic, even if they do suck.

And how are the conscripts just as fat after going through boot camp?
I swear - by my life, and my love of it - that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.

ROFLMAO
No matter how powerful one becomes, there is always someone stronger. That's why I'm in a constant pursuit of power, so I can be prepared when an enemy tries to take advantage of me.

Well if you picked the scythe and the necromancer raised the wraith she'd be pissed at you dirty little thief :devious:
I, for one, am dying to find out what colour they paint Michael's toenails.

Not to mention it'd be kinda hard to locate the dead Wraith without the scythe there

That's ok, I'm sure the wraith could still harmfully touch any pixies in the area

Also, in Ashan peasants are the most well fed of the haven units. In fact it's the footmen who have to slim down to fit into that special armor.
