New movies thread here, and I just wanted to start things off by saying how much I love "Charlie Wilson's war". Pretty clear that Sorkin wrote the screenplay, and the acting is excellent too.

That movie is on my to-do list, but I still don't have it.
Right now I'm watching the Mummy 3... I won't get heart-attack because of it for sure. It barely worth the time spent. The only thing to mention is there are some low to mid-grade computer tricks in it.

On the other hand I watched Hellboy I & II. I was expecting more, but still it's a good way to spend 1,5 (x2) hour. Some pretty good jokes and pitches of romance with mediocre action scenes and good computer animations. And this stands for both parts.

I saw The Dark Knight recently courtesy of Cheerios (bought more than a few boxen, got two free movie tickets). 'Twas excellent.

And I'm still waiting for the 1.5 hours of my life refunded to me after sitting through the first Hellboy.

Hmm I'd expect hellboy 2 to be better than that. Especially since the original was kinda crappy.

I've watched a few movies lately. Prince Caspian was a lot better than its predecessor and had some pretty good scenes, heck I even remember regretting having watched the first one

Tenanious D and the pick of destiny was simply hilarious, if you know Jack Black you have an idea of what to expect Likewise for kung fu panda, good laughs and simply amazing graphics. Just watch its intro on youtube, epic stuff!

The other I watched the other day was dogma, now that was an interesting view on religion Good humour that one.

My luck is that my mother tongue gives endless possibilities for fun, so it gave me a couple smiles

Hmm.... Dark Knight? Now that has a high priority on the above mentioned list.

Don't expect more from the second Hellboy than you got from the first. It's almost the same quality.

Hellboy sucked. I hear the comic is good though.

Nice to hear Prince Caspian was fun...I'll watch it eventually.

Just watched Dan in real life. It was ok. Same old formula. Carrell always plays the same character. Shrug.

Dark Knight was a thrill ride for me as well.
Hellboy II was enjoyable enough. But certainly no masterpiece.

One movie I saw in theatre last year and that still lingers in the back of my mind is Pan's Labyrinth. If you haven't seen it, it is worth considering.

Pan's labyrinth is definitely recommended. Feels meaningful and emotional, hanging between cruel reality and fairytale.

I think the first Hellboy had potential to be a good movie, but it only scratched the surface and ended up being a shallow action flick. I wanted to know more about the characters' history. So just average for me.

I do, however, plan on seeing the second Hellboy.

Pan's Labyrinth was a much better Del Toro movie, but I still missed more of that depth/background. Looks like this might be the director's trademark: dazzling exterior but half-empty on the inside.

Hopefully he will be more careful with The Hobbit film (both of them actually).

Yes, two Hobbit films are planned. The second will deal with all the things that happen between it and the LOTR.

I don't remember anything worthwhile happening between hobbit and lotr, it was a peaceful and uneventful time.

After his hiring in 2008, Del Toro confirmed the sequel would be about "trying to reconcile the facts of the first movie with a slightly different point of view. You would be able to see events that were not witnessed in the first."

I remember Gandalf left missing in an investigation of Sauron's reappearance so it could indeed be interesting.

Saw Across the Universe (the romantic comedy made from Beatles songs), Sunshine (Danny Boyle's scifi movie featuring, once again, Cillian Murphy) and Beowful (well, you know that one). All three were good, but not great. Sunshine was my favorite, but it falls apart near the end unfortunately.

Saw Hancock yesterday; another good movie for Will. It is very complex and far not something that one would expect from a superhero movie. Those with better perception with see some moral lessons in it too.

Dunno seemed pretty simple to me. Not quite what expected, especially after seeing how the whole thing begins and there is a nice twist later but that still does not make it a 'deep' movie. It was a mix of comedy and serious but I think that some of the comedy parts were lacking. Maybe I just have higher expectations from a movie after what I've seen but it could have been better.

I agree that it's strange... and that there are many movies that are way better, but still, it has some big points in the chapter of "one's soul when he is alone", if you understand what I mean.

Agreed, it was built on an interesting idea. Which is why it's confusing, initially it looks like a silly comedy but it's something more.
