Favorite Monster of Might and Magic

Unread postby Kareeah Indaga » 12 Jul 2008, 17:24

I know we had one of these before, but it was MMVII-specific and that was over a year ago, so now we have another one.

I would like to put a word in for the Bloodsuckers of MMVI and the Dagrels of MMIX. The former are nasty, disgusting monstrosities that are all I imagine the spawn of evil to be, and the latter are cool looking and hit hard. B-)

The phantom Mogred beasts we've never so much as even seen. :D

More seriously now, mine would be the Fear / Nightmare / Terror things from MM8, or the wacky Lizardmen and Minotaurs of the same game. Can't beat their design for... originality?

There are plenty of unique monsters in MM series, so it's difficull to choose some but I try:

MM1-2 - never really played, so no monster
MM3 - Sonic Ninjas, Iron Wizards and Eds - 409
MM4 - Carnage Hands, Flying Feets, Gnome Vampires
MM5 - Beholder Bat, Dragon Mummies
MM6 - Death Knights, Agar Pets, Guardians of VARN
MM7 - Lincoln Droids, Dragonflies, Genies
MM8 - Terrors, Wasps, Juggernauts
MM9 - Basilisks, Yeties, Demons, Yanmir and Forest Giants, Magreebs

I choose them because of desing, unique appearance (read: not just copy/paste from other games) or humor (gnome vampires? dragon mummies? 8| ).

I can't tell about MM1-MM5 as it's been quite a long time since I played them so here's my list for MM6-MM9:

MM6 - guardians of Varn, titans, cannibals
MM7 - titans, hydras, sharks!
MM8 - terrors, phoenixes, cyclops
MM9 - terrors, eyes, all undead related

Monsters I hate - oozes and turtles.

Yeah, they're sort of tribesmen all over Bootleg Bay (IIRC) in MM6.

Dog
Master of the sword

Those are cannibals. Magyars are in White Cap and Castle Alamos.
My patches: MM6 MM7 MM8. MMExtension. Tools. Also, I love Knytt Stories and Knytt Underground. I'm also known as sergroj.

You sure they're not in either Bootleg Bay or Blackshire too (one or the other, don't recall which)? I remember having to face off against at least seventy of them before even reaching the nearby town 8|

EDIT: Apologies, indeed I confused them with the Bounty Hunters.

I'm surprised that there has been no mention of the really memorable monsters.

The most memorable for me will always be the Megadragon. Honorable mentions go to the MM3 Terminators, and the various Golems in Xeen.
I'd rather be part bull than a complete sheep.

mm3-5 altough i played them while ago i alredy have forgotten most of them so cant really say.
mm6 - archers.
mm7 - raiders- ones in green outfit and curved sword. But owerally mm7 had best sprites if chosing from mm6-8
mm8 - didnt really had good ones - but i will go with necromancer if needed.
mm9 - liches and mages were only ones with more or less decent model. Frost giant had pretty good model too but hes unique

MM6: Minotaurs, Werewolves, Death Knights, Dragons, those Anubis things in the pyramid
MM7: Minotaurs, Dragons, Evil Eyes
MM8: Even though they're allies, Minotaurs, Dragons, and Lizardmen (I still with Lizardmen were playable characters).
And there was much rejoicing...
"You want a piece of me?!"
Ithilgore trying to Identify a Dragon: "Haven't seen one before..."

I only played MM7&8, so:
MM7: Oozes(gelatinous), speaker of the death and droids.
MM8: Necromancers and terrors.
