Most of my experience of peasants comes from Heroes III so I voted them. They are neutrals, not associated with any town which is an advantage of a sort. (assuming there are peasant dwellings on the adventure map) you can freely use them to serve whatever purpose you could imagine: act as easily replaceble cannon fodder, to supply your Necropolis with skeletons...
In other Heroes games say, in Heroes II, for example, the peasant is associated with a faction, knight's cannon fodder unit and a headache when playing that town type. Now, one can only sigh with relief that UndeadHalfOrc's H2 patch is around. Before that the peasants of H2 were, in my humble opinion, easily the worst level one troop of the entire game. Slow, lacking growth and health being the main complaints.
Somehow, I found the later variants of peasants to be artistically quite disappointing and blunt. And yes, I confess I don't much care about 3D.

Don't worry if things are going badly today. They will be much worse tomorrow.
Is there such a thing like "peasant evolution"?

You would run out of peasants fastGreatEmerald wrote:Oh, right... Thinking about that, Necropolises should get a lot of free skeletons, as they don't need any peasants to grow food for them, as they don't eat. And since peasants take the majority of a population, well, you get a lot of skeletons that way!

Vote H5. The peasant is actually one of the few units I feel has gotten consistently better from start to finish. I think perhaps it is because the unit is so simplistic that a mere upgrade in graphics and finish is enough to boost the look.

I'm gonna cast another vote for Heroes 5, followed by Heroes 2. Why Heroes 5? Because designing a peasant is a very, very boring thing to do, and first in Heroes 5 did they try to have some fun with it. The Heroes 5 peasant has more "personality", if you will, than any of the others.
I mean, geez. Just look at that Heroes 3 peasant. Whoever did that guy should be shot... Or at least fired.

Nah, they just couldn't find a decent Peasant design to rip off (from Warhammer or LOTR), so they decided to use their own imagination. Ironically enough, it does show more personality, more so than most of the other H5 creatures, but that doesn't necessarily make it a good design by any means.EvilNed wrote:Why Heroes 5? I like it, so it's definetly not a bad design either. Infact, it's simply a design. Good or bad? That's for nobody to decide. I say it be good, and if you say it be bad, then I can live with that.TheUndeadKing wrote:Nah, they just couldn't find a decent Peasant design to rip off (from Warhammer or LOTR), so they decided to use their own imagination.
