I load up HOMM4 and click Multiplayer at the main menu. I click main_menu_host_game and then main_menu_lan and a window pops up with a message saying:
"HOMM4 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
I click to see the error report that it wants to send to Microsoft and here's the error signature:
AppName: heroes4.exe
AppVer: 2.2.0.1
ModName: heroes4.exe
ModVer: 2.2.0.1
Offset: 00345209
I've tried installing the game on four different computers and it crashes everytime.
HOMM4 multiplayer crashes everytime

That leads to another problem I'm having. I have the Ubisoft published version, which is incompatible with the 2.2 --> 3.0 patch made for the 3DO published version. Whenever I run the patch it gets to heroes4.exe and then keeps telling me:
"Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match."

Yeah, we already heard that one. I wonder why didn't they just make a 3.0 published version.

I don't have much time before I'm off to work or I'd try to look this up on the old boards for you.
I seem to recall someone else having this problem before the forum moved and it seems they wound up using the .exe from equilibris to solve the problem. You may want to look in the old forum under posts titled error/crash/problem or something like that to see exactly what they did.
