Well since we touched the country genre, I have to say I dislike it, but I also have to say that I love Shania Twain and anything that she sings and isnt pure country (Man, I feel like a woman; Im gonna getcha good ect.).

We do know why the brits (and us aussies!) spell things like colour and honour with a u don't we? I hate to admit it, but it's the American's who have the original "proper" spelling, the "ou" is an affectation the english took up when it was fashionable to be french. Same goes for words ending in -ise like specialise (yanks use -ize mostly). A few words got frenchified during that period and it stuck, but this was after America got colonised so it never took of there.

"Specialise/ize" comes from the latin "specialis", therefore the "ise" spelling is probably the original.
Now about colors I don't know which one appeared first in England but I think you're correct since "color" is the latin for "color". In french it's "couleur" and even in France the "our" of the english "colour" looks weird. Actually the french spelling is used only for that word, all other color related french words use the "color" spelling. So if there's something to blame about words like "colourise", it's not the french language.

Hmmm, I always thought the same applied to the -ise/ize but I could be wrong (are other words like that in Latin like pressurise, moisturise?). And I don't think the english were necessarily copying French words with things like honour they were just making it look a bit french... as you point out, ou is more french then just o in words like colour.

Moisturise has no simple translation in latin. It comes from the old french "moiste" which comes itself from the latin words "musteus" and "mucidus". So there is no real reason to have "ise" rather than "ize" here, excepted maybe to make it simple.
About pressurise, it comes from the french "pressuriser" (such obvious things should be forbidden), which comes from the past participle of "premere" which is "pressus". Again there's no real reason for the "ise", excepted that french uses "iser" and keeps Z's for scrabble-only words.

Actually I can't think of any latin word finishing with "iz" or "ize" so there's no reason to write it that way in etymology. But a language is more than etymology, it must be made simple and the words written have to be read easily, so in order to avoid people pronouncing it "iss" it's better to write it "iz" in some countries.

Didn't understand the lyrics (though I suppose that's sommething you believe I should be grateful for that?), but the music didn't strike as particularly terrible- not very good, but at least it was low-key enough to be ignorable. To sum it up, I've heard worse

Let's be serious. This music is poison for my ears. Understanding the lyrics surely doesn't improve the negative effects. Believe me, it is good that you only hear this crap, seeing the guys who sing it, makes you vomit instantly:

I guess it's not so much about one specific example of manele, but more the shear amount of it, same way as she-who-must-not-be-named and her ilk are more annoying than they would be if there only was one such artist/group...
