We celebrated Christmas at our aunt's place; the whole family with 16 people 'round the table... spent the night at the apartment not far from there. Today we popped by grandma's on our way home. She's got Alzheimer's, and doesn't always recognize us. We put her in a good home close to one of her daughters who come in several times a week to help her out. It was quite a nice place, actually not depressing in any way. Talking to grandma is a bit strange. One minute she knows who you are, the next minute she doesn't remember ever having seen you - and it goes as fast as flicking a switch.

Yeah, I think it's probably worse on us than it is on her, though. She's being given a good combo of drugs, including pain killers and antidepressants, and she's in much greater shape than she was a year ago. Back then, she was miserable and didn't feel well at all. Now she's being taken well care of, so at least shes not suffering physically. It's just that the mind is drifting away. She mostly remembers things about her childhood... Today she asked my mom if she'd been up to see [my grandma's] "mom", and she died 20 years ago. 20 years to the day, in fact.

I can imagine...
It is very terrible...my grandma had a seizure last week (IIRC) and the doctor told my aunt that it was because of her worsening condition...

Funny that I've never been there myself.

That thing with elderly people is a bit funny and not necessarily in the amusing sense, thankfully my grandparents are still aware of who we are Quite a gathering Kalah, here it's only been my folks and my sis.
Thanks stefan and winterfate, you should take a look then

I, for one, am dying to find out what colour they paint Michael's toenails.
