Girl: "I know liver isn't exactly your favourite, but if you don't finish, you won't get dessert."
Guy: *moaping* "What's for dessert?"
Girl: *walks away from the table, while sliding her top off*
Guy: *wolfs down the rest of the liver*

In modern, Western society, yes. That's because the human body loves fatty and sweet things, since these from an evolutionary point of view is very attractive to the organism. After obtaining such items became relatively easy, however, the human body is betrayed by its own evolved tastes, as one can very quickly get too much of a good thing. Things that are good for you today might not be the same thing that was good for you when these tastes evolved.

Yes. It really is when you think about it. Evolution is very slow and takes many, many generations to make a general change.
For instance, Polynesian people tend to be heavier than other races. Mostly, because the ones who had extra body fat were the ones who LIVED long enough to make it across the ocean to the islands. African Americans (as opposed to Black people in other parts of the world) tend to have a lot of trouble with High Blood Pressure because they are the decedents of the slaves who could best store salt in their blood during the long hard voyage from Africa to America. These are two groups of people who still carry the genetic properties that allowed their ancestors to survive where others perished.
All over the world, humans have had trouble getting enough calories in their diets to survive. Our larger brains require HUGE percentages of FAT in the diet to grow and develop as fetuses and infants. Therefore, our common ancestors who grew large brains and figured out how to survive were the ones who ate more high calorie diets. We LIKE high calorie foods which contain sugar and fat. Sadly, as Kalah mentioned, those 'luxury' food items are far more easily acquired now than they were even 100 years ago. Which is only the blink of an eye in evolutionary time.

picked it up yesterday from the new seafood market near our place .... the reason I mention the "Australian" and "New Zealand" bits is that a lot of the seafood here (the cheap stuff especially) is imported from South East Asia and is pretty crap really, the local and New Zealand stuff is much better, looking forward to it
