Warpath ability

Unread postby Metathron » 10 Dec 2007, 18:05

I was a bit taken aback when I first saw this ability which allegedly gives the hero 100 (350 if you check the manual) additional movement points for every victory on the map. Now does this even work properly, or work at all? 100 extra steps for the hero would be insanely overpowered, let alone the 350, so is there some formula to this that eludes me?

100 = 1 tile , 1 extra step

If you thinking about 100 extra steps then your wrong

In any way this ability is insanly overpowered yes , should be like 50 max.

So why doesn't it say 1 frikkin step then? I am not entertained by this code-breaking business.

1 step does not seem overpowered to me at all, 3 and a half might be a bit, but not necessarily.

A single step ranges from 75 to 211 movement points depending on terrain, direction of movement (straight or diagonal), artifacts, and abilities.

350 movement points is just shy of what a character gets from a Tattered Flag (400 movement points), so Warpath acts a lot like having a Tattered Flag (with no morale / luck bonus) sitting around at every encounter.

Just like the Tattered Flag, though, you have to actually do the fight in order to get the bonus. If the enemy flees and you don't pursue, you do not get the bonus movement.

On most maps, I think Warpath is weaker than Snatch, actually, and a bonus of only 50 movement points would make it a waste of an ability slot.

Thank you for the detailed explanation.

I see this information is contained within the manual, though I have never looked at that part before. In any case, this system seems rather needlessly complicated and confusing, at least at first glance.

A straight move on a road only uses three quarters of a "step" and is the smallest quantity of move points that a step takes. So that becomes 75 (rather than 0.75) so that they can use whole numbers for move calculations instead of using decimals.

It seems needlessly complicated for the humans who want a basic "1 step" to be "1 step" and not "100 move points," but it's actually simpler this way for computer processing than to calculate it using decimals.

Does it help any to think of 100 move points as "100% of 1 step," or is that even worse?

I also had a question to add to this.

What is the definition for every victory on the map??

Does it mean any victory by any hero?

So let's say you have 3 other heroes + Hero with Warpath. If they each fight a battle and win, does Hero with Warpath get 3 extra steps?
Also, is it permanent or just for the current day?

Just for that hero.
Just for that day.

Think of it a lot like a Tattered Flag next to every battle that hero fights (but without the Morale / Luck bonuses).

Ok, Gotcha.

The part that confused me was the "every victory on the map", which seems to imply that any victory over the entire map by any hero.

I think it should say "Everytime this hero wins a battle, he gets 100 movement pts until the end of turn"

P.s. I think it would be funny if someone built a map where there was a whole line of creatures exactly 100 movement pts away from each other...stretching from one end of the map to the other.

It's not that great. I mean, for attacking the unit in the first place you spend some movement (1 step - correct me if i'm wrong)

So i'm guessing this just compensates that... in conjunction with snach it can get better... but not by that much... how many battles per day do you usually have?? even with logistics...
