You don't even have to guess what they are talking about. Just look at the pics of one of their parties.

And the chickens. Those damn chickens.
A demon is a malvolent spirit, thus it can posses any creatures body. The evil soul can make some phiscally visible changes on the body. And so can the posessed body can become stripping bitch, a three headed dog, a horse with modified horn.Metathron wrote:Demon or not, it's still (in the shape of) a horse.ThunderTitan wrote:It's part of the faction that comes from HELL... and you're suprised it's a demon?!
Or another explanation. It's like boogeyman, it has the form of the fear of that one who is looking at it. So can be the demon spirits(Pol wrote something the same).

Not everyone (have chance) to see these images, although they leaked they were sort of censored...Omega_Destroyer wrote:You don't even have to guess what they are talking about. Just look at the pics of one of their parties.
Anyway (if) I (would) seen a bigger set = means that I (would) have a better idea..?

The initial contention was that some of the nightmares looked too horse-like:ThunderTitan wrote:and the Succubus is in the shape of a stripper... your point?!
To which Hodgepodge replied:Kareeah Indaga wrote:The WoG and H4 versions are just too horse-like.
Then:HodgePodge wrote:The reason they look like 'horses' is because they ARE horses.
Gaidal Cain wrote:Except that that is wrong. Mare in "nightmare" is a kind of demon. It still has that meaning in f.ex. Swedish.
3. A demon or spirit once thought to plague sleeping people.
So just because it's part of the inferno, all of its units have to be demons? Are the griffins and angels actually humans in disguise, then? After all, they come from the human faction.ThunderTitan wrote:It's part of the faction that comes from HELL... and you're suprised it's a demon?!
All I'm saying is that who's to say whether the nightmare is "just a horse" or a demon? I much prefer the straightforward idea that it's a corrupted horse-like creature (much like the Ringwraith's steeds in The Lord of the Rings) than the convoluted theory that takes a huge leap by assuming that some sort of spirit that plagues people's dreams and a demonic horse creature are one and the same merely because they happen to share the same name.

I think it's rather obvious that someone heard of nightmares as monsters and then thought that "mare" meant horse. The idea of someone coming up with a horselike moster and then thinking "nightmare sounds like a good name" seems far more far-fetched to me.Metathron wrote:All I'm saying is that who's to say whether the nightmare is "just a horse" or a demon? In which case it has nothing to do with your dictionary definition anymore and the nightmare we have in the HoMM games is a completely separate creature. That it might have been created through misinterpretation should be of no consequence.

Except that HUMANS DON'T LIVE IN HELL! If it comes from hell it's a demon... that's the rule. Now if their description said that the demons found then in the garbage dump behind your house then you'd have something.Metathron wrote: So just because it's part of the inferno, all of its units have to be demons? And HP isn't wrong, they're horses, just demon horses instead of regular horses. Just like the Unicorn is a magical horse.
And that's not a Succubus because in the original description there's no mention of any reversed skeletal wings...That it might have been created through misinterpretation should be of no consequence.
