dual or single?

Unread postby Zoltang » 09 Apr 2007, 12:54

It appears as though heroes V only runs on single core processors? is this true, or can single and dual cores work?

The game not working on Dual Core processors would be a bug not even Nival could come up with (I think). :D

I wouldn't worry about the processor in case you are planning to buy a dual core (be it intel or AMD).

Pay more attention to the video card. Take care it's not intel, but ATI or nVidia of at least 128MB and 128 bits, preferably 256 though (both MB & bits).

Memory should also be 1GB if possible. If 512MB, take care it's not shared with the video card, in which case you can say good-bye to decent performance in the game.

Isn't this the fourth thread you open about hardware questions? Please stick to a single topic.

I wanted to start a new topic, but saw this one.
OK, Heroes V doesn't fail or crash on dual-core CPUs, but it also doesn't use them. When I run Heroes V it seems to use only about 50% of each core. I assume it is the same for Heroes V: Hammers of Fate...

But what about Tribes of the East? In the recommended system specs, dual core CPU are mentioned. Maybe ToE will utilize both cores?
Also, what about 4 core CPUs?

Don't hold me to this but I remember something about dual core support in 3.1 possibly? Or maybe that was widescreen support...

Um ... if you say 50% of each core is in use, does that not specifically prove that both cores in fact are in use?

For me, if an apliction is using up 100% of ONE of the cores, then that is displayed as 50% of total processor power used, though.

The only aplication I currently use that truly does support the use of both cores is Sonar 7.0.
