Some people just get an irrational phobia against certain things harmless though they may be. It just happens.

Maybe it's because I want be a black-hearted lawyer, but there is nothing like absolutely defeating someone with a well-written proposal. Allow me to explain.

Awhile back, a group at my school broke election rules. The student government (the senate) asked them to cease and the group chose not to. The senate then passed a motion requiring the group to apologize for the action or face losing their entire budget for 2008. The group failed to meet the deadline set and even with an extension, failed to comply with the request. Ultimately, the senate voted to strip the group of its budget and in accordance with the bylaws, appointed a special committee to come up with a proposal to remedy the situation. The bylaws called for the board of directors to vote on the new proposal, and in the event they disapproved, the group would remain deleted from the budget. To make sure the group did not avoid punishment, my committee proposed the group lose its budget as the remedy. Why this makes me happy is because the offending group was completely screwed at that point. No matter how the board voted, the group lost its money. The look on the president elect's face (who happened to be on the executive board of the offending group) was absolutely priceless. Total defeat. There's just nothing like it. Even the Dean of Students was impressed by my committee's guile.

My "lawyer full of crap who needs to be taken down a peg"-sense is tingling

What I like best in my job is when I get to correct lawyer's mistakes. Often enough it's their secretaires who've done the actual job but that matters not one jot to me as we only accept forms signed by the lawyers personally. Meaning they get the blame no matter what. On my reply to a complaint I got the other day I worked in a rather stern comment regarding how to interpret the sources of law. That was a good day.

*cough* ...and now for something completely different. It's...
