Voted for H1, all the other towns look so deserted, it the H1 you can see the creatures standing by their huts/buildings. I also like the seagulls at the harbor :)

Voted Heroes I as well. I love the colorfulness of the sky and just the way the whole Barbarian Castle looks. And as vulnevia said, I also like the way the various creatures are standing outside their dewllings.

None of those are bad, though HoMM IV could perhaps be put at the bottom of the heap. But HoMM I is the best, being the most personable and charming of the bunch. I actually love the whole HoMM I cartoonish style which doesn't take itself too seriously.

Heroes 2 is the best overall. The buildings don't look tacked-on, they fit the picture perfectly.

H1 looks like a frontier settlement rather than some actual barbarians.

H3 looks like some militaristic pioneers carving out living space in the mountains rather than actual barbarians.

H4 looks like a bunch of random buildings.

Of the two remaining I chose H2 narrowly. The building style seems to fit the terrain better. Additionally, those tents look more like Native Americans than Mongols...especially considering there were no Mongolian permanent settlements until Temujin united the clans. Even still, there weren't very many.

Homm3 for me. Can't explain why really... I like the music, the atmosphere, and the creatures.

By the way, I just realized that the only creature to have been present in all incarnations is the Cyclops. Goblins and Orcs appeared in all but H4. It varied a lot over the years, with centaurs, wolves, rocs frequently changing towns. And what the HELL were Orcs doing in the Warlock town in H4 ?

Imo H3 looks the best. Glorius and magnificant :)
Since I've never played H3 I'm judging purely by the looks of it.

And I agree with Darmani in that H4 looks like a bunch of random buildings set on different plateaus. Just looks unnatural. And where be the ladders? :D

Oh my god... someone on the CH forums never played H3?

What are you waiting for? Order it! Steal it! Download it! Copy it! Get it any way you can. I rank it slightly above H2, and vastly above any other game in the whole M&M franchise.

Yes, I've heard so many great things about it. Somehow it just didn't seem right to me to go back when I could go forward ;)

If you're so excited about it maybe you could send me a copy? :D

I really like the H1 look for this one,

I like H2's feel, atmosphere, and the buildings seem to fit really well, so it gets my vote.

Heroes 1 for many reasons (nostalgia being the most obvious).
But also it's atmosphere and colour scheme. It's just brilliant.

On the other hand (going forward) you do not like heroes 5 much if I remember right?

Playing heroes 3 might give you another perspective on the series. You get a lot of content for your money...

Orcs are Chaos Creatures, if we go by LotR. Slaves to powerful, destructive wizards. In DnD, they're Might creatures. Tribal, powerful, shamanistic.

@Phoenix Reborn: I used to not like H5 but I've changed my perspektive on that matter. I quite like it now. It just took some getting used to for a H4 gal like me ;) But I guess I failed to mention my updated view on H5.

H3. Would've voted for H1, if it wasn't for that pyramid being there.

It's funny, but i've never liked the Barbarian town in H2... it's better in H3, but it's not that interesting, and H4 suffers from all towns having the same geography. H5's tents just look funny... they must have sumo enormous animals to get those skins... i wonder if it's whale skin. :D

Guess i'll go with H4 because i like how it looks on the adv map at all stages.
Somehow it just didn't seem right to me to go back when I could go forward
Yes, yes, you're thinking processes are defective, we know. Now go buy H3...
