Battle: Combat Music 6 wins, the drums are nicest in it and the sounds that starts soon after the drums is just groovy. I like how combat themes presents new sounds as the song goes on.
Terrain: Subterranean theme has malicious, lurking tune to it which I think fits well. Lava has a very sad sounding theme to it which I also like a lot. All terrain themes are good, but water is the best .
Town: I think I've posted my preferences on this subject before. I have to go with Order here it's best of the non-opera themes and while the opera themes are generally good they can get bit annoying sometimes. Problem with town themes is that player rarely stays long in town there so they often start and stop abruptly, even with fade, which doesn't sound nice especially with opera.
Main menu music of the original is very nice but Winds of War theme is just abysmal.
Best ever SONG in HIV?

I think there may be something wrong with the way this theme is extracted, because it's much longer than the others; the file is 14 megabytes in size whereas the others are all 2-3/4 mb. What is more, this file seems to be a collage of ALL themes. Does anyone have any idea why the extractor makes it this way, or why (if so) this file is "faulty" in the original music.h4r file already?Elwin wrote:Grass is way too long.

Nothing wrong with the extractor, file and the game. The game does play that track (if you wait patiently until the end), and not to mention some of the terrain themes are hidden in this long track (if you check the music files, you'll notice that some terrain themes are "missing"). I think the devs had something different in their minds.Metathron wrote:I think there may be something wrong with the way this theme is extracted, because it's much longer than the others; the file is 14 megabytes in size whereas the others are all 2-3/4 mb. In the diameter of the Universe, we are but a single flame. To say that we're insignificant is to give us....too little credit. But if the universe chooses you to be part of its plans, then you better let go because it makes it more fun when you don't know what's about to happen next!

What's so "happy" about it? It certainly doesn't sound "happy" to me nor combat theme 5 "evil" like you said. If you got decent speakers combat music 6 just stands out of others especially when you tune the bass a bit higher. On 0:30 starts the sound I'm somewhat fond of.Elwin wrote:why does everybody like combat theme six to me it sounds hideous cuz its got to much "happy" in it. but maybe everybody here is just in a happy mood.

short answer: I don't like drums or anything bass related. Flutes and piano are for me!
Long Answer: Combat theme six starts off with eight (I think) slow drum beats. then the drums go something like "ta ta ta-ta, ta ta ta-ta, ta ta ta-ta, ta ta ta-ta" followed by some steel drums in the background and then it keeps repeating for a few times until finally the drums start to become progressivly faster until finally the theme actually starts. I personally find this theme very cavernous and rogue-like, which I don't like. Near the end the drums actually stop and replaced by a somewhat short and holy-sounding theme. Now, what I hate about this one is that it's far too repetitive, it does have a good melody however but I need something a little bit more allegretto and sounding like the music of HIII / Combat theme 1 or five.
