As if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror....

Unread postby ThunderTitan » 11 Oct 2007, 22:39

Weep, weep, for surely the apocalypse is nigh...
http://kotaku.com/gaming/ea-grabs-two-d ... 309937.php

sure, they'll probably still put out some good games for a while, but we all know that eventually EA will make them go for the easy buck made from minimal improvement and constant churning out stuff on a short schedule. Why must life suck even in teh little things?! Isn't world politics and day to day life horrible enough?

even worse, they bought Bioware's parent company... ensuring less popular resistance....

Electronic Arts wants you to hate them, it's as simple as that. How long before they start boiling babies on live TV?

I will never forgive them for what they did to Origin and the Ultima series.

To repeat myself..

EA yet again consumes another good company.. think of all the good franchises we will see fall down on the ground and then get milked to death.

I can already see it... a Baldur's Gate third person action adventure with overly simplified interface, crap story and no gameplay going out on the PC and all next gen consoles, followed up by 10 expansions with virtually no content whatsoever.

@TT: That brought a smile to my face. :)

Every company in the player's hand...

:lolu:

@stefan: Agreed...even though it wouldn't fit the Yu-Gi-Oh! color scheme. ;)

@Infiltrator: I'm not sure what will happen with Bioware now...but I do know this:

The gaming industry is going to hell... :disagree:

Why? It's just business. Nobody forced BioWare's shareholders to accept the deal.

not at all, but I am sure they were bought out by cash, not altruism, and even though I don't think the shareholders should in any way be beholden to altrusitic ideals it still makes me think that this is a bad move for quality gameplay

we will, but the weight of proof is pretty clear already - I'm happy to be pleasantly surprised though (especially if they do a new BG and do it well)

In the end its us (the customers) who will pay for the industries downfall. I remember when games didn't get advertised at all, got very long development cycles, no hype-sites, but turned out to be real jewels. Very few games today live up to the standards of the "golden age".

I'm not certain if I agree with that, I think it's just that there's so much dross out there as well .... I think there was a lot less dross in the early days, maybe a few more quality titles, but the truly great were spread out a bit more than many people like to remember

Touché.
However, stefan's post... (and I quote):
stefan wrote:not at all, but I am sure they were bought out by cash, not altruism, and even though I don't think the shareholders should in any way be beholden to altrusitic ideals it still makes me think that this is a bad move for quality gameplay
...summarizes my own thoughts on the matter. I hope I'm proven wrong...but I'm leery.

Besides, I can't remember the last EA non-sports game... ;|

And...let's not even go into Hellgate: London land (that subscription scheme is already catching flack and the game isn't even out yet).

What will happen with gaming? Only time will tell. I just (and I repeat myself) hope that I'm wrong in my doomsaying. :)
