Ranger.jpg" align=right vspace=10 hspace=10></a>As part of the faction debate started by Corribus, winterfate wrote a <a href="/https://www.celestialheavens.com/708">detailed strategy guide for the Sylvan town</a>. Does our way to play a specific town changes over time? Do people play each town differently, or do they share the same tricks? Compare this article to the one <a href="/https://www.celestialheavens.com/570">Vlaad wrote last year</a> to find out. To play the Sylvan successfully you need more than a big stack of hunters. Check out what winterfate has to say about creeping, formations, hero development, the Avenger skill, and a lot more.



There are a few more strategy articles under construction, but I cannot tell for sure when they will be published. The goal is to update the tricks based on the Tribes of the East expansion, either via notes or a rewrite.

It might be awhile. It took me a long time just to write the creature section for the Stronghold. I'm going to have to retool everything for the Fortress guide due to the expansion. Oh well. Could be worse.

Very good job :)



Sylvan is my favorite and hardly ever choose any other.



I usually choose Wyngaal as my heroe because of his initiative boost at the start of every combat. Starting from lvl 10 and on this often gives your dragons, unicorns, hunters, dancers and sprites 1.5-2 turns before the enemy gets one = pretty devasting. Besides he start with attack, which sylvan only has 6% chance to obtain.



As skills Expert Destruction Magic (implosion) combined with triple imbued ballista simply demolish every lvl 6+7 monster in one blow so to speek (except black and emerald dragons). With just descent spellpower you can easely take 3-4 lvl 7 monsters out pr. shot!



I haven't quite yet found out whether Destruction Magic or Light Magic is the best. But my suggestion is, that if you pick War Machines, Destruction Magic is a nobrainer. If you choose Logistics then choose Light Magic. But which of the two combos is the best... I can't figure out.



Of course Luck and Defense should be the two last skills :)

Awesome guide. What makes it so good is how it's funny, not just straight guide. lol at "My recommendation, don't...pick...this...ability...ever."

Hi. I play HoMM very long and I can tell You that Sylvan and Haven(sometimes Fortress...sometimes) are definetely the strongest factio. It is hard to choose, which is better. Theoreticaly in long games there is some advantage of Haven ( training palladins), but several times we confronted high level heroes of Sylvan against Haven. Usualy they were cripped optimal - I mean most useful skills against opposite faction nad You know what?... Almost every time Slvan CRASHED Haven. Strange dont You think do you?

The potency of Slvan initiative and attack is incredible. This is also one of the most though faction. But it is easy. maybe cripping in the early gamer is a little bit problematic...Sometimes;D.



But ok. There few things I want to add to this strategy:



1) Ossir is the easiest choice ( coz' of 9-12 hunters at start), but he isnt the best. Ithin....She is overhelming, devastating and she has unicorn and tent. Also Wyngall is good. Aspecially he can have 0 - 2 hunters at the biginning.

My strategy on small and normal maps is choosing Ossir and if I have Wyngall or Ithin I do not hasitate.



But there is one tip. If I hit Nur or Jhora of Academy faction. It is very helpful to play that way. Power of magic combined with Sylvan, speedy army is unstoppable. I works believe me.

I have never lost game when I present this condition to me opponent.



2) Avenger skill is the weakest and less useful racial skill in game and I beg You dont try to defend it. Of course it may be useful, but onl in very peticular situation. Very rarely. Until Tribes of the East it isnt worthy to inwest in that skill. There are many other better skills such as...



3) defense...And I agree with Okrane - last stand. Great skill. Take it and cripping become funny and easy.



I could write about this faction, and write, and write...But is is pointless with the matter of fact that ribes of the East appeard...Have You seen new Skillwheel? Sylvan + divine guidence??!!! Now You can have more that 5 luck and morale...I guess 7 is the cap...MY GOODNESS!!!! RETRiBUTION FOR SYLVAN?!!!???

I am afraid that there may be some problems with new Heroes. I hope I was wrong...

Deleb + triplebalista + falming arrow...Is is not funny. It is stupid.

Deleb has been nerfed.

Ballista's shots under hero's command achieves fireball effect. Spell power of this fireball increases by +1 for every five hero's level.

Anyone know if Wyngaal bug has been fixed in 3.0?

Thanks for guide, I will look through it when I have the patience.

We are working on it. The Faction Debate thread contains guides for the various factions, but most of them aren't complete. I'm working on the Fortress guide and once Tribes was announced, I decided to hold off on sending it to Angelspit because I'd just have to edit everything. As it stands, I have to completely revamp my skills and creatures sections.

I think such a guide would still be valuable for those who have 2.1, and not the tribes expansion.

Nice to see it finally official!

Just to make it clear to everyone, as it wasn't stated explicitly in Angelspit's introduction, some time ago I put the call out for volunteers to have what I called a "Faction Debate", a way to answer the question of which faction was the best against which other faction. The idea was that the debate/discussion would be conducted in private and the results would be posted as part of my Discourses series of articles in some way. I got a number of volunteers, including several from the Heroes Community. Essentially, everyone chose a faction that they liked, wrote up a strategy article - focusing on how that faction stood up against other factions - and then we discussed. Each week one new article was "released" to the forum so that we could focus on one faction at one time.

Anyway, the debates ultimately took a form different from what I had initially envisioned, but nevertheless, I think the results were great. A lot of good strategy discussion came out of the whole thing. Now what you are seeing is the finalized strategy article for the Sylvan Faction, which is the faction that was chosen by Winterfate (also the first faction to be presented in the forum). Hopefully you will be seeing the rest released at somewhat regular intervals.

I'm not sure what Angelspit's plans are for the private forum. I hope eventually, once all the material is released, the strategy threads will be made public so that other people can chime in if they want. But regardless, I'd really like to thank the volunteers, whose names will be released with the articles. They put a lot of time and thought into their work, as I think should be evident by the results. :applause:
