In a Fortress siege I like to designate Defenders as one of my enemies, since there are apt to be 500 of them to deal with. In general, I prefer to target masses of low level creatures (with low Defenses) rather than sturdier high level creatures.

That's a good point Caradoc.

There are some notable exceptions and my favorite is...the Ancient Treant!

With over 175 HP...not favoring it could be the end of you...especially when the max growth rate is a whopping 5/week. :)

Right. It seems the rule should be to go for the units with the highest aggregate HPs.

I actually go for the higher iniative/speed units. Units like Ancient Treants are just slow enough where you can run circles around them, as it were.
And the chickens. Those damn chickens.

What I'm trying to avoid are losses inflicted by the opposing hero while having to wear down the last defenders. This is especially true when you are also taking three hits a round from castle defenses.

I highly agree with this. However if I have resurection I'll still usually go for the high initive creatures, and maybe throw in a high hp. For Example if fighting a sylvan mirror I'd go Dragons, Druids and Hunters. Pretty common but those are the ones I'd want slowed or favored if I had the option. First one to finish off the others stacks of those three creatures is usually the victor.

In any case by the time you get to kill the defenders the other units will have done a lot more damage than a ranger can on his own.
I, for one, am dying to find out what colour they paint Michael's toenails.

Is ressurection really viable for a Sylvan? The only time I had use for it was during the campaign with Findan who was one heck of a hero (hardly achievable in a single map).

If you can get the spell from an adventure location you can save up hunters from smaller battles. In a big battle you will usually not have that much spellpower plus sylvan requires many resources to build up a mage guild 5 =/

@Infiltrator: What Elvin said! :)

Of course, if you do manage to get it...it will be a great aid to ressurect those Master Hunters which will be dying in the major battles. :D

The Light Magic combo I love, however, is Divine Strength/Haste. Mass them both and voila! :)

The smileys are gone and the forum-to-CH conversion had some side-effects, but the article might be ready for publication. Anything else you'd like me to change?
