I'll raise your stupidity with mine

one time at a party I got a little drunk - I'd had maybe 6 beers or so, when someone presented a "bucket" - if you're not sure what this is it involves cutting the end off a 2L coke bottle (not the lid, but the bottom bit) then placing it into a bucket of water, lighting some marijuana into the lid the smoke releases into the bottle, then you take a hit .... it was pretty insane stuff (plus I have only ever done a very small amount of weed) so it knocked me for six .... I was stumbling around and was totally out of it, and had a need to get home, so I drove!

It was only about 7 or 8 minutes home, but I was so whacked that only the tail lights on the car in front of me kept me going .... I was on the road my house was on when I had to close an eye .... it HAD to close .... it was okay, I had another .... but then, maybe 200 metres from home - the other eye had to close too, I fought it, and to this day I have no memory of parking the car and getting into bed but I did it ....

now that is some seriously stupid sh!t!

indeed, many thoughts like that have haunted me for years, never moreso than recently since I've had kids .... just thinking about how many loons are on the road, and then considering myself as one of those people? wierd, sad and depressing, but I did learn from it ....

Been there. Done that. Never did it again.

I got SO wasted - booze & weed - wicked combination - that when I HAD to go home, I selected a friend who SEEMED to be straight and asked him to follow me home. I told him "If I start to weave, or drive stupid, BLOW THE HORN and wake me up." This sounded totally logical at the time. We left the party. He dutifully followed me until I turned of the main street to my house which was only a block down a side road. I waved and he went on.

The next morning, I called and said "Dude! Thanks for following me home. I really appreciate it."

He said, "What are talking about? I don't remember how I got home."

8| One more problem with being wasted is that you can't tell how bad off your friends are either.

Good question. My policy is to do (relatively) minor stupid things, but often.

Another Drunk & Stupid story for Sandi:

Years ago, I attended a World Science Fiction Convention in New Orleans. This is a HUGE, 5 day event with people attending from all over the world. Well, we were attending the convention during the days and enjoying the local 'atmosphere' at night.

Let me tell you folks that don't know, New Orleans - in the good old days - was 100% about getting the tourists plastered! I happily obliged having wine with dinner, then going to Patty O'Brien's for Hurricanes (A strong alcoholic drink that tastes like a slushy.) Got another 'Hurricane' refill in a plastic cup from a vendor on the street.

Don't remember a whole lot after that... aside from begging my husband "Please? Can I kiss a stranger? Look! That guy looks pretty strange!" I do remember my husband dragging me by the arm back to the convention telling me that once I was there, I could kiss anyone I liked... just NOT out on the streets!

The next day, this very nice man came up to me, very excited and calling me by name. He had a lovely Australian accent. (I love accents! Most American's do for some strange reason.) He was quite 'chummy' with me but he finally noticed that I was looking at him like I had never seen him in my life. Crest fallen, he finally said "Do you remember meeting me last night?"

I blushed. I apologized, "I'm sorry. I was pretty drunk. I don't remember anything about being at the convention last night. I had some wine and a couple of Hurricanes... after that, it's kind of a blur."

The poor man looked like I had just run over his dog with my car. He introduced himself and shook my hand. Then he told me, "Last night, you told me 'I LOVE OZZIES!' " 8| He walked away rather sadly and I never saw him again.

Well... I do love to listen to them speak. I once told an Aussie, "Talk to me. I don't care what you say. Recite the alphabet for all I care." Wonder if I told this man the same thing?

Good question. For me it's something I've said, and believe me it still pains me to think about it today, 6 years later. I'm too ashamed to say because an IDIOT would have said the right thing.. but no, not me, when I screw up I do it big time.

I have said things I have regretted. Or not said things when I should. That's the point, make a mistake and learn from it anyway. To avoid mistakes when it really matters and thankfully I have never done something really bad. Embarrassing yes, messy too but that's about it.

I wrote, deleted and that started typing again this post at least 20 times.

I don't know winter, I know I won't ever do anything stupid like that ever again but it keeps popping in my head from time to time. The "what would have happened if" kind of thought..

Agreed.

Good thing I've never slipped up while talking to a member of the opposite sex...if you know what I mean. :)
