EA Gains Ground Over Ubisoft

Unread postby Angelspit » 08 Aug 2007, 20:11

The story started in December 2004, when Electronic Arts acquired a 20-percent block of Ubisoft Entertainment in what was considered a hostile action. EA's disappointing quarter results gave some hope to the Ubisoft founders in the next year. However, on Friday EA increased its holding of voting shares to 24.86%. There are more details and a good analysis at IGN:

"They own the same number of shares - it's just that the shares they own have more substantial voting rights," Sebastian said. "I still don't think that's enough to bring about a change of control. In the past, Ubisoft officials have publicly said they have a number of options for the future of the company - including joining forces with a large media company, partnering with a publisher like EA or remaining independent."

What, they make good games... like C&C3 and..... oh right, that's about it.

Bu really, you most likely have, even if EA was only the publisher: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_El ... Arts_games

Ubi officials should know the bad rep EA has gained so far and steer clear from their claws.

Very few games released by EA are to my taste. It's not a company I have much of a liking for.

Yup, they should definitively stick to making their own bad rep.

They probably realise that EA is the devil, but a hostile takeover, isn't exactly friendly :)

Things might change at EA now that the gaming division has been split into ?3 groups.....

Actually if they made better games then their financial strength would prevent any easy takeover.

EA make good games. Batlle for middle earth 1&2 +exp C&C generals + exp. But its indeed an evil corp. No surprise it eats more and more of UBI.

The only really costumer and independent giants I love out there gotta be Lionhead and Bungie, they do it great! They could kick Nival, Ubi and EA ass anytime.

If EA joins with Ubisoft, the Heroes series is ****ed. Plain and simple.

They got lucky with BFME 1 + 2. Every other EA game I've played sucked.

It started out with The Sims, after they got a huge revenue, they had the option to solidify the trust they have gained from their fanbase by delivering quality support in the future, or make 10 more crap expansions to fill their coffers at the expense of reputation. The choice they made was clear, and they continued to ruin games afterwards (BF comes to mind).

I remember reacting totally different 2-3 years ago when first rumors of an EA takeover were posted on forums. I was deeply concerned, writing supporting posts, ready to sign petitions (as futile as those can be sometimes). The way they handled H5 make me have no more consideration for them than I had for 3DO back in the days of H4 (and 3DO at least had the "edge of bankruptcy" excuse).

Sorry if I hurt "sb" with that, but it's what I feel.

Evil? Now that's a loaded term. I simply find EA dull. Nothing more than that.

As far as I'm concerned, UbiSoft & Nival can go the way of the dinosaur! I, for one, would welcome anything which would curtail the arrogance of UbiSoft and their äss wipe develping company, Nival. As long as EA doesn't pick Nival as its game developer, I'd be happy!

So far, I haven't had any negative problems with Electronic Arts. Even if some of their games don't please some people, anything would be an improvement over UbiVal's lack of public relations and puke games!

Go for it EA!! Eat those ßastarÐs at UbiVal alive and stomp what's left into the ground while you're at it!

Good bye UbiVal & good riddance!!!!!

Being dull is evil...

But just look at the year numbers on some of these games they're no longer giving online support: http://kotaku.com/gaming/executioners-s ... 285403.php

EA = not a good company.

Actually, the only game I ever bought from EA, is Half-Life2 game of the year edition. Which ruins my point entirely. Damn
